Third Test, Australia v India, Gabba

That's not the news we wanted to hear. Does give another bowler a chance in the remaining 2 Tests:

Shame they dropped Bolan given the recurrence although he seems like a real trooper and will revel in the Boxing Day test assuming he's the replacement again. These are the Australian selectors after all so 🤷‍♀️

So this is what I missed whilst driving:

We should wrap up India’s first innings early today. Petering out to a draw, think we’ll bat for some practice. Can’t see us bowling them out within a day, without one of our strike bowlers.

Starc and coughmins looked exhausted by the end. Even if they'd bowled them out earlier it was looking like they didn't want to bowl again. Shows up how Mitch Marsh is a passenger in the side - if he's not scoring runs and can't bowl then they can't exactly keep him in for his great catching. Boland in at the MCG is what everyone wanted anyway, pity that Hazlewood couldn't survive this Test.
Only thing Aus can get out of the Test now is batting practice (if Bumrah doesn't do his magic) and putting miles on the Indian bowlers.

Austalian batters need to play like a T20. 15 overs going hard to put on a quick hundred runs and then declare. Head and Marsh should move up the order for this innings.

Agreed. We need 3 fast bowlers, a medium pacer, a spinner and some part-time bowlers - all fit. Marsh hasn't performed - lowest score (part from Lyon) in the first innings and only bowled 2 overs.

Does it matter? We couldn't bowl out India in a continuously rain affected Day 5. There won't be enough play to do that - particularly being a fast bowler down and Marsh being sidelined from bowling.

Looks like it's going to take a while to get the Gabba ready for play:

From cricinfo:

10.40am No rain but it is closing very fast and the lightning is still in the area. So no play for now.

Mick: "If Marsh plays another Test surely questions need to be asked of the selectors. They haven't dropped anyone for performance in years and Marsh's average is now back under 30, he rarely bowls (and when he does isn't very good anyway), and has proven he can't be relied upon. I don't think it's a stretch to say he has cost Australia a chance to win this game when they went a bowler down. At this point there's no upside to him, get Webster in!"

Simon: "Put this test out of its misery and call it off. Most frustrating test ever. "

I agree - what have we got to lose by bringing in Webster...

From the cricinfo blog:

With only 196 overs bowled in the Test, this would be day three without all the weather we've had. It's day five, though, with more weather expected, and at best Australia have almost three full sessions to somehow force a win.

Why have the Gabba as the 3rd Test. Weather is always a problem in December (summer storms and humidity). November is always a better time to play - as Test 1.

As expected, I think it's going to be a draw because of the rain:

BoM says it all. Thunder here in Chermside, but the rain has stopped for now:

Well, lunch has been taken early as the clouds clear, the sun comes out and that may give the groundstaff a chance to have it prepared and ready for play to commence after the luncheon adjournment.

More two degrees of separation in good old BNE @QF WP. I thought I recognised Sid from your photos.
He also works for my step-sister and her husband in their catering business. I'm just used to seeing him in their dark blue check shirts, not a plain white one!

What was he thinking playing that shot:

Maybe it's not going to be good batting practice for the Aussies, but rather good bowling practice for the Indians.

Getting their confidence up for Melbourne and Sydney where they play well.

Better timing - Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth then Adelaide for Australia Day period. Like in the old days...
