I get given a copy of an excel spreadsheet today which shows all of the company discount codes for the Hyatt Hotel chain.

This must be private and privileged surely?

So, like one does, I checked the properties of the document - seems the clown is pretty stupid in more ways than one, stealing company IP, sending it around by email (I expect it will be hosted somewhere as well) and leaving his name and details in the property field. 10/10 for stupidity :)

Does anyone have a contact at Hyatt Hotels corporate - I feel an email is in order

...

Is it really company IP? yes it's discount codes but given many need you to work for x company some are useless. what do you think will happen by "reporting it"?

A bit like the VA section on AFF - user beware.

It looks like it is over two years since last modified, so maybe not that relevant.

First rule of AFF - don't call the airline.

Second rule - Don't call the hotel?

An excel spreadsheet with discount codes? That sounds like an archaic version of ozbargains prior to the Internet...

thats been floating around for a long time...

And out of date.

Doubt Hyatt will care about this.

There's a thread in the Hyatt Subforum on FT that has been running for nearly 4 years, and predates this spreadsheet.

This thread gives a great insight on why the good stuff doesn't get shared on AFF/FT any more, and the community is poorer for it.

In the early days of google it was fun to do a search for "confidential xls". It was amazing what can be found. I'm sure it's still there, just under different names.

It's like osmosis, there is a pressure that naturally passes information from the secure to the unsecure.

I doubt it really matters. Hotels just need to check you have valid credentials to use a given rate. Nothing is secret on the internet.....

Unless the person whom sent the spreadsheet to you is a Hyatt employee, or there is a Hyatt employee in the email chain, what exactly could they do?
The document is over 2 years old plus who is even to say that this is an official Hyatt spreadsheet?

Oh the doubters in this group.

OK, a phone call to the Hyatt in Sydney and the manager was very interested in the spreadsheet. He was forwarded a copy.

Quote - "Hotel discounts are the property of the company who has negotiated minimum number of stays / spend and is only available to the direct employees of said company". The first manager I spoke with was astounded that this sheet existed and suggested that if the creator of the spreadsheet was indeed a Hyatt employee, they wouldn't be for long, if not, it would be considered theft if it was indeed in the same format as a Hyatt database dump - I'm guessing CSV file. I'm hoping xx_ xx_ xx_ xx_ who was stupid enough to leave his name there isn't an employee.

From the comments previous to this, it seems that the respondents to this post are quite happy to take something they are not entitled to. One would hope that was a minority of the people here.

Here's a small sample of the spreadsheet...

Just out of curiosity, weren't you the one that wanted to use an Avis corporate code after leaving a company?

I reckon the LVMH code is 46546.
Hapag-Lloyd is totally in the clear. Is that thieft by the OP?

OK, just to satisfy my curiosity, exactly how do you know that the author of this document is the person who sent it around, were you on the list it was sent to?

Was wondering the same thing. Just because one has created and or updated a spreadsheet it does not mean that it is the same person that has now put that information out to other people.

Personally, I've pondered doing such before, but chosen not to as I don't have a good poker face if caught out. Instead, I tend to stay at non-chain properties and leave status to airlines. Perhaps if I was game to try use the codes I would have some hotel status too, and would have also spent money at some of the bigger chains... some money is better than no money right?

I find your attitude to be quite alarming on a site such as AFF, where members come to share information and tips/tricks. As is pointed out below, you questioned using a corporate rate after leaving employment yourself in the past. Whether that was just research or not isn't for me to judge, but it does seem odd that you allow yourself to benefit, but no one else.

One of the things I absolutely love about AFF (and other similar forums) is the free exchange of information online, but especially in person when you get to an event. Members have always been most generous in the information they've shared over a beer, clueing me into things I would have otherwise missed completely.

I say this in the nicest way possible, but remind me not to share any tips in person with you, incase they should be reported back to the company :p I'm not cheating any system, but I'd like to continue getting good value out of the companies I shop with ;) and hopefully you'll consider that being a part of this community is sharing with others, not dobbing in others. We all want to do well out of a program and imposing your morals on someone else isn't exactly necessary.

That's just my views on the subject anyway. As I said, not used such codes before, and the Hyatt really is out of my ballpark anyway! I'm but a student!!

I believe this is what you're looking for.

Standards for some?
Makes you seem like a complete cough now, you were trying to do exactly the same thing. then get on your ethical high horse that its "against my business principles.". please don't let the door hit you on the way out...

also 46546 seems to work quite well ;) most of the others seem to be little to no discount, some raised the price.
