Last night I took an international flight SYD-MEL and had checked luggage.

The checkin agent wrote the weight of the luggage on my bagtag docket before sticking it on my BP folder and handing it back to me.

In 11 years of extremely frequent travel, I can not remember this being done before!

My recent BA boparding passes have the number of checked pieces and the weight listed. I don't know how accurate it is. States 30kg, and I don't hink my bag was quite that heavy, but could have been in that league.

I think it is very wise of airlines to weight and note the weight in the baggage checkin record just to avoid similar issues in the future. That simple action could have cleared it up either way very early in the piece.

My humble opinion-
I do not know Corby is innocent or guilty. I am not angry with Indonesian people or their legal systems. If Corby is not guilty I really sympathise with her.
As such, I will not be boycotting Bali because I do not agree with the verdict. I am not in agreement with politicising the issue. Whether Corby took the drugs or some baggage handler has planted it, it is some one in Australia who has done it. Why hate Bali?


However, having said that, I will be scared to go to Bali as it could happen to me. I am generally a risk averse person. So I will not consider going to Bali unless it is absolutely necessary.

This case is going to hurt the Bali tourism, whether it is fear or boycott. But I do not think a judge should consider the effects on tourism dollars when delivering a verdict.

All I can say is that $10 at a Bunning’s on a couple of padlocks would have saved a lot of grief for all concerned. (may not have but it's a deterrent)

Padlocks might not prevent having stuff stolen out of soft luggage (slash and grab does happen), but it would make life a bit more difficult for people to put 4kg of anything in, let along a fairly bulky substance.

If I travel with soft luggage zips get padlocked and I carry the keys with me in case customs want to inspect anything. If not Sampsonite makes a good lockable case for a hard luggage option.

I trust the Australian media (read Channel 9's Corby's Guilty Program) about as much as the Indonesian Customs officials or Malaysian police.
The Goo Goo Dolls penned in one of their songs: "The least they ever gave you was the most you ever knew"...that sums it up for me.

Yes, I have been to Bali and Malaysia and was involved in paying a bribe to a Malaysian policeman after being caught "allegedly" speeding when driving from Singapore to Malaysia with an Australian friend to see the Malaysian GP. His car (a Holden Stateman he imported to Singapore, where he was working as an expat), along with all other non-Malaysian registered cars were pulled of the road by the police (how strange that :roll..ours approached the car, my friend gave me his wallet and said "whatever I ask you for, give me". They talked, no ticket was ever writen out and the bribe of SDL$100 was pushed under some papers in his clipboard out of the "view" (supposedly) of his superiors. I'm sure they were all in on it. No Malaysian cars were pulled over and we were in a line of 6 to 8 cars...

As for Corby, well yes things are full of holes everywhere in that story (on both sides) - but I believe Corby's story less...

i fail to see how her situation, case, arguments, choices, or consequences of her choices have any impact on me what so ever. i can't think of any reason why i would let something that has no connection to or effect on me dictate what i would choose to do when it comes to my travel plans.

If you choose to travel to Indonesia, then the Indonesian authorities, including the courts, absolutely have control over you. By visiting that country you are under their laws and legal system.

i am saying yes i would. i am saying that my decisions and choices are my own. i am resposible for myself and my choices. i am saying that this situation does not influence any decisions or choices that i would make on whether i travel to indonesia

if i do travel there i am not under the control of the indonesian courts, immigration or legal system. when in indonesia i am influenced by those factors, not controlled by those factors. i can go there and make the choice to behave anyway i want, of course i would make the responsible choice and obey the law, because the consequences of obeying the laws of that land are what i want for myself.

A report released recently shows in the last 5 years more Australians have either died or been seriously injured in INDONESIA than in Afganistan, Iraq and Nigeria put together.
Would travel to this country be wise?

What drivel! I am sure more Australians have either died or been seriously injured in New Zealand than Afganistan, Iraq and Nigeria put together over the last 5 years. How many Australians go to Indonesia each year, compared to those three countries?

Simple answer to all of this = stay at home (actually no, I wouldn't do that either .... statistics say that the home is an inherently unsafe place .... more people die or get seriously injured in accidents at home than anywhere else.......) :wink:

Maybe the alternate question should be "Has this case affected whether you would go to Bali for a holiday :?: "

Just out of interest my answer to both questions is "NO" I would not go to Bali however this was a conscious decision I had made long before this particular case :!:

Yep 7 years for murder and you can guess the type of treatment this sh**head will get.

why would they say that? if i gave them a reason to say that then that is something i would expect. if i gave them no reason to say those things then why would they. you are describing consequences of some previous action on my part. people do not just get detained for no reason at all.[/quote]

To seriously suggest that we should boycott a country merely because of a percieved (by some) miscarraige of justice is so damn stupid I can hardly believe it.

Would the same question be asked if the incident had occurred in, say the UK? NO.
