Ticket classes on Qantas

This has most probably been thrashed about before but I can’t find a comprehensive list of fare codes. Please help me and fill in the missing gaps!
Please model comments on a MEL/SYD upgrade for Economy domestic

U needs to move from economy to business class. Its for FF awards.

W, T and Z are Premium Economy (Z being awards) - but unlikely to come into play for a MEL-SYD uprade.

I don't think QF use R for First Class, but may be wrong.

No, R isn't used by QF, it was used in economy up until recently, but i think they've got rid of it.

On International and domestic, only O, N and Q can't be upgraded, but if you're talking points, everything except Y is discount economy whilst Y is full, though on domestic I think B jumps into the Full economy bracket.

BA used to use R for "Supersonic Class" for Concorde :cool: .

Y, H, B and K are all considered full economy for QF Australian domestic flights, for both SC earning and for upgrades.

I'm travelling in Economy (K Class) international. Apparently this is a 'flexi saver'. Anyone know whether this earns SC's at the discount economy rate or at the normal Y class economy rate? I couldn't seem to find a table on Qantas.com.

EDIT: DOH!! NM posted above that K is considered full economy for domestic SC earning purposes. Didn;t see that lol :) I assume that the same applies for international?

You assume incorrectly

For Economy Class

For Qantas Domestic Australia flights Y,B,H and K count for full status credits
For all other flights eligable for Status Credits only Y counts for full status credits

Ahh I see.

So confusing :/
 
And an interesting distinction shoing how QF value customers differently to AA. QF give you triple the elite qualifying measure flying in First whereas AA give everyone flying B and above 1.5 elite qualifying measures and deep discount on QF is only the real deep discount.

QF really should be regarded for status as a High Value Flying Program than a Frequent Flying Program ;)

For international, only "Y" in economy class get full SC. Every other class is discount whY.

Surely a programme truly designed for frequent flyers should measure only on the number of flights rather than having anything to do with distance travelled

Doing 1 ATW can attain Gold/Platinum status on AA for example; that hardly is rewarding frequent travelling

What would you class as a frequent flyer? I consider myself to be a frequent flyer with an average of 50 sectors per year. I know there are people on this board that do many times that.

According to my bookings page, they are all in K class. So the SYD-MEL sector will earn me 20 SC's. MEL-AKL is only 20 SCs. To me that seems a bit messed up. An international 3 hour flight earns the same SCs as a SYD-MEL flight??? :/

Oh well /shrug

I was asking because I need 100 more SC's to hit Gold QFF by May 31 :P Was curious If I was going to make it or not.

I agree wholeheartedly - I think AA is more aimed at that market (frequency of flights) than
QF which is I feel aimed firmly at the $. For me personally the $ would work better for status but when I consider my $ value AA works well at the moment.

I think 50 sectors per year is pretty frequent ;)

There system is not fair, that is for sure. Take MEL-AKL, as you say 3 plus hrs = 20 SC's. Take MEL-HKG, a 8 plus hr flight = 30 SC's.

Where is the fairness in that.
