It is their job to remain calm and keep the house in order.

Unfortunately, like runs on banks in times of crisis, a huge back up of gift card redemptions is likely going to make things worse.

Yup only if they are being processed and sent out. I suspect that they haven't suspended the ability to transfer points to KF purely because if they did it would be almost an admission they are going down and that would only speed up the process. With gift cards they can stall without it being overly obvious what's up.

I guess some here will have ordered gift cards in the past and can comment on the speed that took?

They looked terrible value to me anyway, but agree, ''bird in the hand'' for those with modest point balances.

As I posted earlier, There is a REAL and IMMEDIATE $$$$$ cost to Velocity for each airline mile transferred out to David Jones or JB HiFi or Priceline or whatever, in funding Gift cards. A $1000 David Jones gift card COSTS Velocity serious money. Right NOW, exactly when they are running short of it.

So delaying issuing them might be the company game as it will incur huge cash costs in a tiny time frame? Hope not, but these are not usual times.

Any idea how the Orchestra playing calmly on the ''Titanic'' situation worked out in the end, while the passengers ''over reacted''??

Sadly we have that here. Was not the fault of the Orchestra, or the White Star Lines or the passengers either, but the result was the same. The Ship Sunk.

Haha very true!

"She's made of iron, sir! I assure you, she can... and she will"

The only thing I can assume is that we (the customers) are the ones over reacting with panic and the airline owners are actually more informed than us and the companies more robust than we are giving them credit?

Go to your local supermarket and you will see how some react to situations that they don't know how will end.

Velocity make money when you use your points to buy anything at all, including Gift Cards and Kris Flyer points.
Thanks to you and others that are transferring a million points or more - thats more money into Velocities coffers benefitting those that are sitting put.

There's assets/liabilities, profit and there's cash. Whilst I am sure you are right that Velocity /VA makes money when people do redeem for Krisflyer and Gift Cards, and liabilities are reduced, there is an outflow of cash. And it's cash that important right now, not accounting profits.

Having said that, I think it's fanciful with the uncertainty around this thing (PM's talking about lockdowns for six months), that enough people would take VA up on a 50% off offer to make a meaningful difference.

So David Jones donate those $1000 cards. Gotcha.

Lovely folks. Same as JB Hi Fi etc. Stirling businessman to just give away their merchandise.

Boy we see some nonsense posted here.

Of course to get Velocity points we need to spend money in past years, if that is what you mean, but Durrrhhh - I think we all KNOW that.

Exactly. Travel bookings are through the floor.

These aren't normal times, yet some seem to think ohh, gee, let's put a sale on and everyone will react the same as normal.

Not 50% off but 30%:

Hmmm flights must be taken by 24th October ... sadly MEL is more than 5K from my home.
