Time for a Qantas sale? Another DSC offer?

Hopefully not a silly question, but why on earth would anyone choose double points over double status credits? Even if you already hit status for the program year, wouldn't it be beneficial to accrue those extra status credits either to get better status (e.g.. Gold to Platinum) or to increase your lifetime status credits accrued to get closer to lifetime Gold, Platinum, etc.? What am I missing here?!

I posted this in the other thread, I may choose points even if the earn rate is at the base or minimum guarantee. At the moment SCs are of little or no value, if I take 1 flight before the end of Jul that locks in P1 for another year. My days of P1 are numbered and will fall to WP which sees me through to 2024, already have LTG and no chance of hitting LTP.
Generally I agree but if you're already LTG, have no hope of ever reaching LTP, and one flight will get your Platinum status extended, then maybe points club is the only goal left....
I also have points club plus and did that green tier thing so there is not much left, receiving an offered to the CL won't happen. :p
