Hi there,

Just finished my first status run a month ago and just wanted to see how long it normally takes for the QF FF card to be updated?

I was thinking it might arrive in a few weeks but still waiting. How long should I expect before the new platinum card arrives?

A few days after I got the status credits to get PS I got an email saying to expect a new card within 14 days. Nearly two weeks later I haven't yet got the card. Did you get an email from QF when you reached WP?

If you are travelling internationally soon perhaps give QANTAS a call to see where it is at.

With the DSC offer perhaps there would be higher volumes attaining status levels than usual already.

If retaining status you already have I think I read they are sent out about a month before the old card expires.

They seem to do a run once a month. Not sure exactly when the cut off is to make the run but I'd expect your card to arrive within the next week given the timeframe you've stated above.

An interesting way (although i dont know how great/reliable it is) to tell if its on its way is using Qantas Cash website.
If you have it activated and login to your account it will say something like "Activate New Card or select I havent received it"

One assumes that if this message pops up on login that the new card is in the mail.

So why did they tell me that my PS card should arrive within 14 days ("You can expect your new Silver Membership card to arrive by post within the next 14 days.")?

Shouldn't they say within 30 days then? Or is their computer system smart enough to tailor the emails to state different dates depending on when the cutoff for the run is?

Personally I would much prefer they overestimate the time the card will take to arrive than underestimate it. Maybe I will give QANTAS a call if my card doesn't arrive tomorrow when they said it would arrive by (even though there are long call wait times for those who are not WP or P1).

I don't know why it says 14 days. I'm reporting what family members have experienced.

I doubt anyone in the call centre will be able to tell you exactly when your card will arrive.
If you are desperate for it there's a courier fee to have it expedited. The Call Centre should be able to arrange that for you.

All I want is for them to stick to what they said they would deliver. If they say I can expect it "within the next 14 days" I expect that they would send the card off early enough that it shouldn't take that long, but if there is an unexpected delay it should take 14 days. If they don't (i.e. only send the cards out once a month) then they have set incorrect expectations. I wouldn't want to pay to have it expedited. No wonder the call centres are so busy if they can't get basic things like expectations set for when cards will arrive right.

I think you may need to lower your expectations of Qantas Frequent Flyer a bit. I don't think a lot of frequent flyers would place great importance on the exact delivery time frame of QFF cards.
I'd suggest the call centres aren't busy due to people calling about matters such as this.

Well I rang up and they guy said it was up to 14 business days. Well why not make that clear in the email, then?

My card arrived over a week ago or ~2 weeks from reassessment date as I was comped early. Hard to tell how often they are sent.

gefsmith & mviy I hope you have your cards by now.

So qualified on the 17th once DSC came through.
Email on the 18th saying Congrats, new pack to arrive in 14 days
By the 25th my QCC account started asking if i wanted to activate my new card. ( i dont know exact date it changed i just logged in on the 25th and saw the message, but this confirms this way works for knowing if its on its way)
Today 30th i received my pack in the mail.

Sorry if this sounds like bragging (although im ecstatic at the moment cause i just got my new card!)
Again i hope you are all sorted by now. If not i would give them a call if your havent done so already.

I've got my new PS card. When I rang them the agent knew when they had sent it, which I thought was quite impressive.

I think after I qualify for SG my SG card may not arrive before a subsequent trip I have shortly afterwards but as I will be flying J that won't matter.

Is there a benefit from having the card on your person? If your OW status is inscribed on your BP one would imagine you get all the niceties of status without the physical card.

Unless you want the bag tags, that is.

Card is handy for OW alliance flights where status for things like lounge access hasnt updated.
Also card acts as boarding pass for Domestic (for those who dont get a nicely printed one anyway). Although the old card still works in the interim.

Can't recall the last time I've been asked or needed to show a card.

if your status is in the system and shows on a BP that's enough.

last week I flew BUD-HEL-HKG-MEL and at AY/CX/QF lounges my BP scanned (generated via AY, which said OWE on them as it should) there was no issue, even with the various CX F lounges at HKG.

Yes it's nice ot have the card, but really you're in bigger trouble (IMHO) if status doesn't show when you fly on a BP or in the system on day of travel. because just having a card may not be enough for some lounge dragons (let alone other entitlements like bags etc) because they could infer that status is not current for some reason, if the card has a valid date on it (as in you may have lost your status for some reason).

And let's not forget a factor that is lost in this discussion of 14 days or 30- or whatever - QF could create the card say 5 days after you qualify and post out the kit - the it's out of their hands - we all know how unreliable the post *can* be at times and say it shows up 3 weeks later may not actually reflect QF's dispatch time.

In any chain where you have multiple factors impacting on the outcome - eg: when QF does a sweep to create cards, how long that takes, when the package is printed and sent out, the delays in the postal system, etc then you can't rely on specifics despite anyone's best attempts to give a reasonable timeframe.
just a thought.

I always understood timeframes to be business days. But in fairness nearly 2 weeks is less than 14 days. When did the card arrive?

I think about Wednesday last week.

Well I wanted the new card so I could sign up to QANTAS Cash.

Is it normal to get an email when you qualify for a new level? Have not received one for my Gold qualification three weeks ago nor Platinum qualification two weeks ago (thanks to a PTY run ;)). Status has been reflected correctly online and on BP's. Wondering if I should call the service center to see if I'm going to receive a membership kit (the bag tags will come in handy).

No you don't get an email IIRC except at P1 level.
It can take a few weeks to get your membership kit. You will likely not get any Gold tags or card only the Platinum ones.
