I would love to get advice on how long I need between arriving early morning on Qantas at LAX late September, and connecting to Air Canada for a flight to Montreal or Toronto. My agent says the 2hr 25 min she has alloted me is enough. Reading older posts here, It does not sound enough.
I would appreciate hearing of any recent experiences that are relevant to this

Next month, I have a "legal" connection at LAX from UA 99 from Melbourne to UA 824 to Boston. I doubt it I will make it after a recent experience at SFO where the lines were long and slow. Many people were sent to the back of the line/queue if there was something the "inspector" didn't like about them. Others who did not speak English caused themselves further angst. Quite separate from those who were "taken away" for secondary questioning. Some of those "taken away" had their passport placed in a locked satchel that was carried by the accompanying guard. The USA airport inspectors exert considerable authority and I find the best way is to offer them absolute and total respect; eye contact when you go up to the counter and only speak when you are spoken to. Respond clearly and politely and do not waste a word or break respectful eye contact. But I do like the hint in this thread to take a sprint after you've got off the plane (and if you're a male aged 60+ make sure you use the aircraft lavatory before landing!).

The most important thing here is whether or not the flights are both on the same ticket (PNR).

Speaking generally, that’s the second most important thing in these cases.

The most important thing is the consequence of a misconnect on the person’s travel arrangements.

For example, if they are flying somewhere to join a cruise ship, they misconnect and the next available flight is a day later.

Sure, if it’s on the same PNR, the flight is reassigned at no monetary cost, but they are still completely stuffed.

Ditto for wedding attendances etc etc.

Sometimes people leave themselves no contingency in their travel arrangements.
