Hi
Any idea how long point movements to VX take from the MR account?
Simon

EDIT

Also - would it be better to move the points to Velocity to take advantage of the 25% bonus?

Not sure about how long but if you read post of the posts in the DJ forum, VX seems to be the much prefferred program even with the 25% bonus as Velocity's partner international rates are ridiculous.

But if you want to fly 100% domestically then its a different POV.

Thanks - I had not checked out the partner rates on DJ. The idea is to get the best rate for a flight LHR-SYD-LHR next Christmas for my parents. VX have some availability but if it takes 5 days to transfer then that availability might go...

I have only transferred MR points on one occasion, but they only took about 48 hours to show up. I was in the same position, had seen flight availability and then needed to transfer the points pretty quickly to be able to book.

I didn't even know you could transfer from MR to Vx... Must check it out..
You cannot transfer Amex Australia points to VX - Virgin America. I think simongr is actually referring to VS - Virgin Atlantic.

That was the assumption I was working on, perhaps I should have clarified with simongr. The transfer of points I was referring to was to VS.

MR to SQ was quick last time i did it, less than 24hrs in this case.

If it is VS you're referring to, then I wouldn't worry about availability, as they have plenty of seats on the SYD-LHR route, in all classes.

Mea cupla - it is indeed VS and not VX.

@swan_tim The availability I saw was somewhat limited around late nov and late dec this year when I checked as they had to move the dates slightly and only had one day available (1 Jan) on the return trip.

I will check availability this morning and if it is still there I will punt the points across :)

Thanks NM - I shall be more accurate in the future ;)

Points transferred - 360K for two upper class seats (or PE if I can not get UC by the time the points hit) - I shall update once they hit :)

The biggest trouble with award seats on booking this route directly is the LHR-HKG leg. If it works OK for your parents, the best option would be to take VS238 to HKG, then jump on VS200 to SYD. It would mean a stopover of at least a day in HKG, and the same would occur for the return journey (VS239 SYD-HKG, VS201 HKG-LHR).

When you try looking at the awards, enter in a day of stopover in HKG and this should bring up more options for Upper Class. I think is is very difficult to get an Upper Class award on the VS200/VS201 HKG-LHR leg.

I hope this makes sense. Let me know if you need me to explain more.

Thanks - there was availability in UC on the direct flights so I hope it will be the same when the points credit.

Your help is much appreciated :)

If you are concerned about losing the seats it may be worth phoning VS and telling them you have transferred the points from Amex, they might hold the seats for you. I recall someone telling me they did this last year. May not work but it might be worth a phone call.

Fracking Amex! My registration of VS was rejected due to some discrpeancy and although my points were taken from the account they wont be deposited in my VS account and will be returned to Amex in 5 working days...
