Timing of Upgrade Request

Just wondering when I would find out if a request to go from PE to BUS would be processed. I have a flight from HNL to SYD on Qantas and could only afford PE seats (they want over $5000 to fly the route in BUS). I need 32,700 points for the upgrade and should get to that figure before my flight but didn't want to cut it too close. Will use top-up if I have to bit didn't want to waste the money if I can just do it through normal means. I am only Bronze.

They usually get processed around 24 hours before the flight, at which point you'll need to have enough points in your account. Have you already requested the upgrade though?

Yeah, I had enough points to request the upgrade upon buying the tickets but have since used those points to get another flight. Just need to get the balance back up before the flight. Although they have since released Premium Economy Reward seats for the flight, the coughs.
