Tipping problem in LAX TBIT Lounge [is back]

..... No-one would complain if a tip was left freely; the issue is the subterfuge being carried out in the showers to imply that a tip is expected.

Yes - but the tip that is "left freely" is the cause of the unwanted behaviour. If no-one gave tips for a few short weeks the problem would be eliminated, and add to the momentum of the gratuity-free movement that Americans are finally getting on board with.

It is absolutely hilarious that there are 25 pages of posts about this "problem".
Why?
This "scam" is trivial and easy to ignore.
Begging, scrounging and asking for tips or "baksheesh" are globally ubiquitous.
Is it outrageous because it dares to intrude into the hallowed grounds of an F lounge?

Well ... yes ... but its not the first nor last relatively unimportant topic that we AFFers go for a long drives on :) .

The fact that the 'National Airline' has said the practice is not on, and yet we find it coming back time and again probably accounts for some of the thread's longevity. I guess the thread will die if the practice goes away.

No attempts at soliciting tips on Thurs 11th.

Off topic - I was impressed with the introduction of texting when the shower is ready. Past visits have required me to check back with the attendant if there is a queue. My shower is ready text meant that I was able to stop eavesdropping on Seal's conversation - he had sat himself opposite me in the crowded lounge. :p

Sitting at the bar, there are 3 lots of $1's placed around the bar that the barman is not picking up.. clearly the issue still exists.

Locals would leave a tip habitually, regardless of whether they knew/cared about the "policy".

Hopefully said tips get collected and split evenly between all the workers or donated to a charity.

I didn't think the issue of tipping at the bar was the bug bear, only for the showers?

I see you've taken your Twitter lefty approach and applied it here at AFF.

Here's a free tip: If someone pays $20,000 for a return trip - they are entitled to not be made to feel uncomfortable.

Yes, I said entitled.

Want to solve the problem Sean? Easy, contact QF Lounge manager at LAX [I'll even get you the contact details] and tell them you'll send each of the cleaners $5k extra a year of your own money.

Stop trying to insist Australian's should culturally appropriate tipping from Americans.

Touting for tips anywhere in the lounge would be equally annoying. They're paid well enough to not need to do it.
The trouble is, most USA citizens feel uncomfortable NOT tipping and would make up a fair proportion of the lounge's clientele.

I surmise there's a reason those bills were left on the counter ... and it is not to discourage tipping ...

it's a tip
I was in the TBIT J lounge, and yes there were 1 dollar bills left on the bar table. the problem is there is a lot of staff in the lounge making your experience great, like the plate collectors, the taco makers and the general food staff, why is it only the staff at the bar (bar man and woman) gets to collect the tip ?

that's unfair. and there is only one bar man there, I did not tip because I need to wait 5 mins for a drink.
the bar man seems to be making the drinks really slowly for the yanks because they would tip, and that's bad lounge culture and it is detrimental for the whole experience.
