Tips on QF in NZ

Who are you flying? QF elite check in desks will process credit card only (and not available to non-elites flying economy). NZ elite check in desks will process cash (again not available to non-elites flying economy).

The bank will take cash or credit card (and I presume their own debit cards).

The vending machines take credit cards (must have pin) or NZ-issued debit cards.

For the first flights of the day the airlines may not have the stickers on hand and thus no choice but to use the bank or vending machine.

Kiwiflyer: I'm flying AKL to MEL on Friday.

Sorry another question, can i pay the $25 departure tax at the business class check in by credit card?

Do you only get to use CC at the non-economy checkins? Is that how it works?

thanks

I'm flying QF in economy, but I've got QP membership so would be using the QP/Business checkin counters - so is that correct to assume I'd fall under the banner of QP elite?

So by this, does that mean you can actually pay your departure tax to a bank, which is located at the airport? How odd..

Fri 27 Jul 07 06:10 Wellington 08:15 Melbourne
I guess that would be considered to be one of the first flights of the day..

Yes. If you can use elite lines then you can pay departure tax at counter.

Yes the bank collects the funds. The airlines are acting as agent of the banks when they do it as a special service for elites/premium pax.

Depends on when you check in. The airlines don't keep stocks of the stickers overnight and collect from the bank after it opens (when someone has time to leave the counter and get them). Therefore unable to pay departure tax at check in counter before about 5 or 5:30am. Note the bank itself only opens after 4:30am.

Sorry for the 20 questions.. just like to be *really* sure about things (I'm a well travelled domestic passenger, but have only gone international twice so far - and that was with parents so they took care of everything, but I'm a big kid now.. ;)). If I go to checkin, and they then say "sorry, we don't have any tags yet" etc. I can then pop over to the bank and pay there?

Flashware. I can confirm what Kiwi Flyer says. Everytime I have checkin after 5:00 the QF Business Class counter has had the stickers and they accept all forms of credit card without charging the flat $4.40 fee;)
If they do not have the sticker then the Travelex windows will sell them and they accept all credit cards without the fee as well. You cannot miss this as it is in the short corridor that you must travel between check in counters and the rest of the terminal, and there probably will be a line there.
Immigration and security do not open until 4:30 and of course the QP International will not be open before then, after immigration, security and duty free. Entrance to immigration, hard to see, is turn right after Travelex walk to NZ souvenir store and it is on the left, you should see a tape barrier. Of course July 2007 may have this changed as WLG is currently under going a change to the international/QF wing of the terminal.

Nice that they've reopened part of the wing. No more wending way through narrow boarded up corridors to get to/from the QF domestic gates.

Actually going on a Contiki tour, just a short one 'cause can't bear to be away from the office too long ;)

I think you're doing the south island starting in CHC and leaving in WLG?

If so, that's the one I did a while ago. Was great fun, and perfect to do when it's cold over there. Just watch for the 1960's furniture at a couple of the "lodge" places you stay in :)

Correct.. south island it is! decided to tack on the extra day (WLG), so I could at least say "I've been to the south AND north island"! ;)

Can't wait.. really looking forward to it, will be good to take some time off work (but at the same time, bad - if you know what I mean!). That's why I chose something like this.. because you're not just laying around doing nothing (also some people prefer that!), but instead always doing lots of fun things.

Thanks for the tips - I'll be sure to look out for that ;)
