To Business Class or not to Business Class.. This is the Question

Go Y.

If you can pick your seat (baulkhead, aisle, window) whichever you prefer then it's not too bad. It all depends on your attitude and expectations.

Most of my long-haul has been Y and I've survived.

I went to the dark side Luke !! and I wont be back !!Whwwsw! whwwse! :D is that a walking stick ??? NOOOOO its a light sabre!!! :D

The problem is trying to go back from Business Class on long haul to an economy seat. Domestic travel is much easier to switch back but I won't bother.

However in this case I think there is not that much of a difference in money..:mrgreen:
To me $1,450 is a significant saving considering the economy flight only costs $1,350.

Don't get me wrong as I love travelling in premium cabins as well and if I was only saving a couple of hundred then it would be a no brainer but I can purchase another set of flights for that amount and 24 hours, even 36 hours, in economy is not going to traumatise me to the point where I would not want to fly again....

Have you done it before? and how old are you? me personally --have done it when I was 30 :(--- did it in J when 50 :D -- do it again ,hopefully but one thing is certain it wont be in Y:cool:

I have done MEl-SIN-LHR and also FRA Return in both Y and J, all up about 4 times 2 times in Y and 2 in J (for work).
I went over to JFK return in Y. I'm young 26 and can do Y, I guess I just prefer not to. I had originally budgeted about $3000 for the airfare and ended up using point to HKG and now I have the extra to pay with on maybe doing the Y to euro and coming back J and it has overnight flights.

I'm nearly 40 and 20 hours in Y is nothing...

If your less than 50 y/o Chopper has some good advice... :)

You'll survive in Y (of course) but J is better. But you knew this already. If you can afford it, fly J. If you're conflicted about spending the money then you probably shouldn't. Either way focus on the trip and not the journey and you'll have a good time.

HTFU?

FWIW my longest trip in whY was BKK/YEG which took about 40 hours where the TG flight BKK/xNRT/SEA was first delayed 12 hours then cancelled so got put up in the Airport Hotel in BKK for a few hours before taking a red eye UA DC-10 flight BKK/NRT arriving early morning then an 8 hour layover at yet another airport hotel which I had to share with 2 other girls from the flight as there weren't many rooms.

Got a UA 747 BKK/SEA & arrived mid morning then spent several hours waiting for AC flight SEA/YVR only to be delayed in YVR as the runway lights were out. I still remember how an AC gate agent kept her cool when after yet another delayed boarding announcement a passenger said "do they have to manufacture the god damn airplane"?

On the last leg YVR/YEG I kept nodding off while trying to eat my ham & cheese crepe as we flew over the town of Red Deer before touching down 2230 on a Saturday night (was due in originally 1730 on Fri) where it was a rather chilly -20deg celsius in late November.

Getting to Columbus Ohio in the seventies in Y felt like it took 2 days as it was a real milk run back then starting out from Perth.
Great story Ozbeachbabe!

I fly J because I can afford it. Of course, travelling in Y won't kill you but I shudder at the thought of going back to Y now. The only time I travel in Y nowadays is when I'm travelling with friends who can't afford J. I simply feel too guilty leaving them in the back. However, I am doing my best to convert my friends to J. I think I can tolerate Y to SEA but going to Europe or N.America will have to be in J, guilt or no guilt!
