We intend flying to Moscow to then connect with S7 to fly to Omsk. Wife wants to fly out 21/7/12, I will follow 3 weeks later & both return together 31/8/12. We are both members of QFF & would like to book with an affiliated airline to obtain points. We want to fly into Domodedovo in Moscow, don't want to land at Sheretmetyevo. That's part of our difficulties, Finnair land at Sheretmetyevo, Cathay won't give points, JAL involve overnight stay (or very long layover) this seems to leave BA (far too expensive) or Qantas.
Can anyone advise me if it is possible to book BA or Qantas tickets via offshore offices ? Is it cheaper to do this if it can be done ?
Does anyone have a suggestion for me to purchase tickets at a reasonable price. QF are quoting $2610, BA quote $3170, both economy. I then need to add on the connecting flight to Omsk, these seem to be approx. $350, so you can see that at these prices it will be approx. $3000-$3500 each.
Other airlines not part of Oneworld are quoting approx $2000 + the connection of course. Big difference to pay to try & get QFF points.
Thanks for any advice, suggestions.

You could fly to SIN and then book from SIN onwards, as that would reduce it a little, but if JAL was much cheaper I’d just take the overnight. And why does CX not earn points? You might have to choose a slightly more flexible ticket than a sale fare?

Anything under $2k looks to be Skyteam. If you DON'T need the points, VN will get you to DME for just over $1.4k via SGN, which means a fare with QFF points is almost double!

Why not book the whole thing with S7? OneWorld partner, they use QF SYD-FRA, then fly into DME, and their website is quoting $2041 for your wife's dates into and out of Moscow, but you can no doubt play around and incorporate the Omsk leg also. For J class, it's throwing up $4650...

What do you mean that Cathay won't give points?

Edit - sorry, I realised I don't know your origin in Oz...

Just playing around the website... if you are flexible with dates, you can get a return flight SYD-FRA-DME, with QF SYD-FRA then S7, for under $950 per person!!! In July/August - crazy! Makes me tempted to go on a trip to Moscow....

That sounds really good actually! A new way to get into Europe :D

Which site? I can't get the Russian site to work with these types of bookings?

Ta!

Crikey! The S7 site is throwing up SYD-MOW for 33k roubles all-in (about $1032) leaving 11 July and returning 31 August... That is cheap!

Yes, S7 works at $1036 for my wife, when I want to go mid August, my fare is $2031? Add both together & it still makes for a very competitive fare for us. Only downside is a 8 hr layover in Frankfurt, both ways. But I think a layover like this is better done in Frankfurt than DME.
We will probably book these, just have to work out some finer points first.
Thanks for everyone's comments/suggestions.
We fly from SYD.
PS. Where do I find an index for all the acronyms ?

Just be aware that as always, the cheapest fares are the least flexible... Also I think discount economy on S7 only earns points at 0.25, however given a number of the flights are on QF metal they may earn at QF rates (This is what happened with my parents' AY flights but YMMV). They do however earn SCs.

As for the abbreviations etc, try this thread: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....ions/abbreviations-and-explanations-5056.html - makes this forum a whole lot easier to comprehend!

And BensAdventures, I can't find any way to do a multicity on the s7 site, sorry. Maybe a TA might help, but I think you'd probably miss out on the great fares if you stopover on the way to Russia. Maybe cheaper to get a multi-entry Russia visa and fly back to Germany, at that price?!

Finally, I think its awesome that the website has the ability to book airport transfers at the same time - very convenient!

Only ever went to Moscow by train and it took 3weeks from Hong Kong via Guangzhou / Beijing / irtskusk / Moscow /st. Petersburg and then Helsinki. Was 4 months pregnant and lost 5 kilos. It was 1992 and there wasn't a lot of food in Russia then.
