I was thinking i could not decide either, i like the idea to make the upgrade keeping in mind you should be checking for equipment change and cancel if they do.
In any case i would be smiling as i am not sitting in Y and enjoying the free upgrade to Y+

Temporary cabin redefinitions giving some in PE Skybeds commenced 1st July.

This redefinition was originally until October 26th, it has now been extended until January 31st.

I am going to book MEL-HKG-MEL for 18 Dec 2009/8 Jan 2010. Do you know which flight has skybed for PE?

I tried MEL-HK-MEL, MEL-AKL-MEL, MEL-PER-MEL and MEL-BNE-MEL. All failed.
MEL-PER-MEL and MEL-BNE-MEL are domestic so not opportunity to waitlist for an upgrade. Your only chance is an On-Departure Upgrade (ODU). For these flights, status does not come into play. Anyone with Qantas Club access has the same opportunity to request an ODU.

For international flights, status does come into play. So does the day of the week and other factors that affect premium cabin loadings. My experience indicates that, contrary to what Qantas claim, the status if the FF account from which the upgrade is requested is the important factor, rather than the status of the passenger.
Has QF PE got Skybed? I was on PE in June from MEL to HKG and it was not Skybed.
For my up-coming flight, PE passengers have been assigned Skybed seats, and some lucky economy passengers (such as me - One World sapphire status and Y booking class) have been assigned PE seats.
