I wondered if anyone has ever been able to use points to get to Chrissy Island? Either from the north (if that is still an option, or from PER?)

Or any other suggestions or experiences.

No, but I see some availability from a quick search on the VA website from PER. I went there back in 2005, on National Jet, on the BAe 146s!

Having been to Easter island, I would love to visit Christmas Island someday;) What to do / see there? (no asylum jokes please)

You can find economy award tickets. Starting from 15th of March onwards, there seems to be plenty of space. There was a direct and then occassionally it would pop up a one stop out to there stopping at CCK I think so options there if you decide you want to connect instead.

EDIT - Costs about 22k velocity points to fly one-way on a saver fair with no taxes

Thanks to get-me-outta-here for starting this thread. As a QFF member only, I joined Velocity and with thanks to NAB, collected 60k points. I've just booked Perth to Christmas island return in November for Junior and I. A bargin compared to paying cash. Bring on the crabs!

This is the thread that got me thinking. We used points to fly VA from Sydney to Cocos Islands and Christmas Island via Perth in mid November 2016 (a revenue fare in Y was ~$1700 return)....the Red Crab migration in Xmas Island was amazing but we were truly blown away by Cocos Islands and their beaches....in fact Cossie's Beach on Direction Island (part of Cocos) has just been named the best beach in Australia.

Kpc, thanks, interesting. How was the accommodation and how did you get around and btw Islands?

The accommodation was excellent....my reviews on accommodation for both islands are here: Xmas Island: https://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Show...h_Cove_Christmas_Island.html#CHECK_RATES_CONT and Cocos Islands: https://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Show...39820614-Cocos_Castaway-West_Island.html...we paid the one way fare between the 2 islands...fyi on Tuesdays, Va fly Per-Xch-Cck-Per and on Saturdays Va fly Per-Cck-Xch-Per. We walked / cycled to get around Cocos and hired a 4WD for Christmas as it is quite a big island. It was a fabulous trip and I highly recommend it...go around Nov if you want to see the red crab migration in Xmas island. Happy to share some personal pics via PM.

Our November Christmas Island trip was fantastic. Wondering through rainforests and waterfalls, snorkelling reefs and exploring places that feel unvisited, crabs (with personalities) everywhere. Each day finished with a drink and outdoor meal at a quality Pub on the ocean. The food is expensive, but get a rewards flight and a week on the island is great value. Our 5 days on the island with rewards flights, motel style accommodation, travel insurance, car hire and quality meals (and alcohol) was $1500 for 2. We are adventurous and 5 days was just long enough, but could have stayed longer. This will be remembered long past our other 3 trips of the year.

Travel insurance is a must as flights can be delayed by days due to weather. We are from Victoria and had a 2 day, free stay, in Perth due our onward flight being delayed.
