Train Travel through Germany help please

Hi all myself wife and 12 year old son go on our dream holiday 6 weeks in Germany and a bit of time in Amsterdam, Paris, Switzerland.
I am keen to travel by train, We land in Frankfurt I haven't planed the itinerary completely as yet, but will be something like this with maybe a stop or two elsewhere. Frankfurt - Switzerland-Paris-Amsterdam- Hamburg-Berlin and finish in Munich to fly out at the 10-10-19
Any suggestions please if a Euro pass is the way to go or just book and pay for each journey.
and any other advice/tips on train travel in Germany or recommended destinations or train journeys

The TGV was great, much better in my opinion than the Eurostar from London to Paris. Seats were comfortable, ride was smooth with amazing views and they had a great bar carriage with a good selection of food and beverage. Free wifi included so easy to pass the time if you get bored with the view.

We only spent the one day/night in Geneva so I am certainly no expert but it was a beautiful city and I would have loved to spend maybe 2 more days there to walk around and get a better feel for the place.

Iceland is amazing and this was my second time there. Rekyavik in particular is a stunning little city and I wanted to take my daughter to the Blue Lagoon which as always, was fantastic.

I’ve been several times in recent years.

I’d just get the Bahn app on your phone. It’s both a timetable/route search as well as a means to buy tickets.

The tickets are a barcode on your phone that you show the conductor.

Too easy.

Better to see how much each leg can cost you and than compare with the total cost of the pass. Sometimes it can be cheaper but sometimes no. In some ways even tickets on Ryanair or other low cost airlines will be more interesting. I will be moving to another part of Germany soon due to my work, now I am looking at Berlin property for sale, hope will hind a solution pretty soon. But I would say that sometimes it is really cheaper to get air ticket especially if you buy in advance.

For the journey the OP is looking at trains would be the most convenient option .... flying short distances, especially on a LCC does not add up ..... the base cost of the flight might look attractive.. but add bags seat etc and the cost goes up fast ..... also the additional time and cost to get to the airport ..... hour travel to airport + hour (or longer) before check in time + security + flight time + wait for bags at end + travel into arrival city .... where a train normally departs and arrives from the city center.

As for Berlin property .... i am kicking myself i did not buy 3 years ago

Raising an old thread from the dead. For me the thing with Eurail pass is the freedom, flexibility and convenience. Depends how you like to travel, of course, but I'm happy to pay for that. It gets you much more than long distancce trains: all sorts of local transport including ferries and cable cars. Not Berlin subway, but loads of others. Did it a couple of years ago and would do it again for sure.

I did. purchase in 2012. The interest rate is 0.54% locked in for 10 years
