You will lose 60% of your miles doing this but yes, it will extend the life of the 40% you have left over.

Anyone done this?
I have 1.4m sq miles which will be extended one last time this year but if i transfer to velocity and back to kf would i get another 3 years?

Yes you would, but with a lot less points though as you will get a haircut in each direction.

So that is not a strategy I would use.

But yes if you cannot use at KF, you can move to Velocity.

If this was indeed the case, then everyone would be doing it, and SQ would shut that down pretty quick as it gives KF miles an effectively unlimited lifespan.
AFAIK that's not the preference at the moment of SQ so you'll lose miles by doing these transfers (and a significant chunk at that too)!

Not to mention that 1.4 million points would become 3.4 million.....and if so you would just keep transferring ;) And in which case no one would worry about points expiring as you could just make an unlimited quantity of more points.

Looks like i read the conversion rates wrong
Im kinda forced to book something
Hello, it's me, your new redemption nominee !

But yes, get to it and booking trips is the best way. If you can't immediately use them all on flights there are a few options, with varying degrees of value that you might want to combine:

1. Just before the points expire, book a some flights. You can then change those flights up to the date of departure or within a year of the ticket's date of issue, whichever is earlier. Ideally book on a route you know you will want to fly so you can more easily change the date online.

There is no more complimentary rebooking so US$25 per person per change on SQ flights.

Don't cancel any of these flights after the points would have expired. You will lose them. Unless something has changed since I looked at this ages ago, done correctly you will be able to use points up to almost 2 years after they would have expired (355+355 days = 710 days although in practice something less than that).

2. Assuming you don't have status with SQ, you can extend your miles for 6 months for 1,200 miles or US$12 per 10,000.

3. Transfer to VA to use there and cop the 35% loss. In reality its more than that because SQ points are worth significantly more than VA points.

4. Spend them at the Krisshop. Personally I would take weekend trips to Asia before doing this, but it is an option.
