Trans Tasman J post COVID

I’m now flying CHC-AKL-SYD, which works out better, as the CHC-MEL flight is oversold (due to the consolidation, no doubt).
Who did they book you on for the CHC-AKL, NZ or JQ, and is the new domestic NZ flight with a QF flight number?

Our CHC-MEL flight got canned.
My SYD-CHC flight got canned too. Only option offered on the same day was connecting via Melbourne with a 6am flight out of Sydney. So assume they consolidated from several flights departing SYD&MEL to one on that particular day.
Changed to a different day straight out of Sydney, though the system was still trying to charge change fees  (waived by agent on the phone).

We got offered a connection in Sydney 🤷‍♀️ staying an extra day doesn't work well for us so working on alternatives.

Booked for Auckland leaving Perth and via Mel in mid July. If there a snap lockdown like currently is in place... what happens? Do I need to contact Qantas or do they contact affected passengers with alternatives?

Thanks

Booked me on NZ. Unfortunately no QF flight number so no domestic lounge access

When are your flights? Someone may be able to guest you in.
I suspect THR may have already flown given they just reported on their AKL-SYD J meal:

From experience, you'll suddenly see a change on the Qantas app or your booking online- if you're lucky you might also get a txt. But July is still way out- I have two flights via and to Melbourne booked for July myself and would say it's way too early to jump now.

Of course, if you feel uncomfortable, you can always try to call Qantas and see if they are willing to re-route you via Sydney or Brissy. But given the time frame, honestly- by then Melbourne might be all clear again and Sydney (or Auckland  ) is in Lockdown so I would seriously wait.
