Transfer CBA credit card points to QFF

This is my first post. I hope some of you can help me.

I have a CBA visa card which accumulates points - some of which will expire at the end of this year. Therefore, I wish to transfer them to my QFF to purchase a ticket for my husband to take his (16 years old) nephew to Disneyland some time this year or early next year. My questions are:

1. Does it cost me anything to do this (in terms of points)?

2. Once the points are transferred to QFF, do they have an expiry date like in the CBA visa card? This is just in case my husband's nephew cannot take time off this year (as he just started his apprenticeship in January) we may have to defer the trip until early next year (ie 2005).

I do not fly much at all, but get points through the credit card. My husband will buy himself a ticket, but use my QFF for his nephew's ticket SYD-LAX-SYD. Any advice, comment or suggestion is much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

As long as you are a Member of QFF program, you can transfer CBA points to QFF. There are a few conditions though.... must be a least 2,000 points; CBA account not in arrears of min. payment etc. etc.

Qantas FF points won't expire, unless your account has had no activity for five years straight.

SYD - LAX - SYD is usually 80,000 QFF points, however, watch for Qantas specials on the 'News and Offers' link of qantas.com.au They often have specials, where you MAY see an offer of say, 10,000 - 20,000 points off the usual, or it may be worded as "20% off" usual points required. It varies with the time of year.

Good luck.... oh, and try using the awards self - booking function of the Qantas website, so you can see what flights are available. You can use the 'milage' you have built into the 80,000 points, and go via Fiji, Hawaii, or NZ for no additional points.

For some reason I'm yet to fathom CBA also has the rule that you must have a minimum balance of 3600 points before you can make a transfer :!:

Yes, you're probably correct with that figure. admittedly, I didn't check the exact amount, I just knew it was at least 2,000 points for your FIRST transfer. It's then usually in lots of 500 after that.

Also Myrna, just a warning. CBA is devaluing their points in July, so to get the best value from the points you've earned, transfer them to your QFF account before 30 June 2004.

I do have enough points to transfer for 2 economy class seats SYD-LAX-SYD (presently 80,000 points for each seat). And, yes I have read in the lastest frequentflyer newsletter that CBA will increase their points - 1.5 points for each QFF point. So, I have marked in my diary to transfer them before 30 June 2004. However, to date I have not received anything from CBA on this.

The notification arrived in a letter dated 5th March and entitled "Important Information about your Credit Card"
