transfer from Haneda airport to Narita

We have a flight landing in Haneda and need to get to Narita, the issue is the flight lands at 06:50 and the next flight leaves at 10:50. it is booked through the one airline but doesn't seem enough time thoughts

It's not a lot of time to transfer but should be sufficient if you hustle (as a reference point, the "minimum connection time" between a flight landing at one airport and the next flight departing the other airport is 3.5 hours). The transfer options are set out nicely here: Narita Airport .

To give yourself more comfort, do lots of research beforehand:
- lay out a couple of transfer options and look up departure and arrival times. The fastest option is only the fastest if you don't have to end up waiting 40 minutes for it.
- look up some backup flight options in case you miss the connecting flight. Assuming everything's on the one ticket, the staff at Narita should be able to rebook you if you miss your flight
- keep an eye out for schedule change notifications - you may be able to use one of those as an opportunity to get rebooked onto a different set of flights that don't require such a connection

You will definitely need to go through immigration, and I'm pretty sure you'll need to collect your bags at Haneda too.

I wouldn’t feel particularly comfortable doing it, but you’d have a decent chance of making it.

If you somehow make the 07:40 limousine bus you’re laughing. I wouldn’t have last time I arrived in HND.

If you make the 08:14 Keikyu you might still be OK assuming you have your boarding pass for Narita.

Any later than that and I’d be looking at a taxi, so I’d probably book a car transfer in the first place if in the same position.

For most people it's either a triple jab or a neg PCR test predeparture from originating airport

I believe the greatest delay these days is entering japan… immigration.

Otherwise 3 hours was the previous minimum connecting time between the two airports and that was easily achievable. The limousine bus leaves close to the arrivals area, and drops you off close to departures. I’ve done it a couple times - pre covid - and still had 20 minutes lounge time after the transfer and needing to be at the gate 30 mins before departure for boarding.

Hiya. That's pretty tight given all the immigration procedure and reduced limo bus options - as @ketsuzei says you only have the one limo bus option at 7.40 - and unless you are super confident with the Tokyo public transport system I think attempting any of the later trains would result in severe stress and angst - and it would be a complete pain if you were also carting check in bags. So if you can't get a later flight out of Narita I would assume the 7.40 limo bus is uncatchable and instead book one of the airport limo services (which will be much cheaper than a taxi).

Last time I was in Japan (November 2022) throughout my trip and in less critical circumstances than making a tight connection I did find the google map app to be fantastic at showing me the best route options via train / shuttle to get me wherever I wanted to go - including from Haneda to Narita (this took me about 1.5 hrs). It all worked seamlessly right down to taking me to the right platform etc. Less successful was operating the ticket machine using google translate - requiring subsequent use of fare adjustment machine - I only had cabin baggage though and had lots of time.

Don't be shy about jumping the queue at passport control, as long as you ask politely and explain your situation.

Hijacking the thread a bit - have only been there once and was going to take the family to Japan in April - but at $14-16k return for four of us, economy, wtf? Decided to go to NZ/Queenstown instead….

ANA non stop is $1800 return per person.. still a lot higher than pre covid QF would be 14k return, but no amount of lounge access, status credits or points would be worth that!

HND immigration etc, with board bags was out in <30 min last week. Huge queue at immigration moved rapidly and it’s simple.
Then transfer, that’s the slow part and you should have a heap of time
