Transfer pts to virgin for Tier PTs

Absolute PITA that they're going down this path yet again. A flyer wants status......let them put their money down and actually fly for the benefit.

VA, the company that rewards the disloyal whilst shunning the loyal. What a pack of clowns.

I have to say, I'm inclined to agree with you on this one*. It's a bit cheap and nasty to be offering SC for anything other than flying.

*Disclaimer : I am of course cheap and nasty as I got 200SC three years ago from the VFF Credit Card Promo ;)

Cheap and nasty? Never! ;)

I don't begrudge anyone taking advantage of these offers.........just the idiots who concoct these offers.

I wish I got one of these offers too. The rationale of the offer is relatively sound - most people targetted probably have status already, so the cost to Virgin of the offer would be small. If someone went from Gold to Platinum thanks to the offer, they probably would be more likely to direct future spend Virgin's way to maintain status. And the transfer of points increases cash flow for Virgin.

Disloyalty can be rewarded in strange ways in rewards programs - WOW usually offer me $30 gift cards twice a year if I spend over $100 three weeks in a row. With the last offer, I activated it, but never got around to do the shopping. So this time, they are offering me a $50 gift card instead.

It is just marketing. Sometimes they do status matches to throw status at people (seems to be popular on these boards). At least in this case, they've got some incoming $$.

Not sure how they have targeted this one, but the last one was based on people not having transferred points over in the last 24 months.
I have been targetted a few times and I have never transferred MR points to VA.

I too don't understand why they are rewarding someone with SCs for not flying when it takes some people 10 flights to earn those SCs.

What next? Buy a toaster and earn 50 SCs?

I can purchase lots of toasters outright and still have change with the saving in not having to pay $680 or more in Fuel surcharges on a trans pacific Velocity return redemption that I would with QFF.

I actually wonder what sort of toasters they sell :?:

I wasn't referring to Qantas fuel surcharges. I totally agree with you that they are extremely poor value.

But enough is enough. Stop handing out SCs that some people take a long time to accumulate. Qantas was attrocious with Any seat awards and double SCs and now Virgin is following suit with credit card point transfers.

Except Virgin aren't following, they have been giving out SC for credit card promos for at least 3 years AFAIK

Qantas are still handing out bonus SCs even if not quite at a 2:1 ratio.

But are they not requiring people to fly to achieve them? I don't agree with that either, but at least there is some degree of "frequent flying" attached rather than "frequent buying".

I think SCs should not be tampered with. If QF and VA want to do something, why not perhaps extend their rate reduction like they do for requal rather than initial qual. As this is in the VA forum board, I'd suggest perhaps if VA really wanted to "reward" members, why not say 1000 SC for plat qualifying, 800 SC for plat requalifying (1st and 2nd year) and perhaps 700 for plat requal for 3rd, 4th and 5th years and then 600 to requal for subsequent years. Gives people something to aim toward as well as making it achievable for longer term status members to retain upon retirement (since they don't have LT status) and also keeps the $$s coming into VA.
