Happy New Year to all and I hope 2025 is a good one.

If I am on the one PNR (connecting flight) from SGN-CGK-SYD - first leg on Vietnam Airlines and second leg on Garuda (Virgina Atlantic points - layover is 9h).
  1. Will I need to pass through customs and collect my bags in Jakarta to check-in for 2nd leg of this itinerary?
  2. In addition, if i need to pass through customs, I assume I'll need a transit or tourist visa, which presumably I can organise online?
  3. It appears Terminal 3 is the likely terminal for arrival and depature in CGK

I am on one PNR (connecting flight) from SYD-SGN-HAN (Vietnam Airlines via Virgin Atlantic points) - from what I've read, it appears I go through customs in SGN, and they will provide me with a transit 'sticker' and then guide me through to the domestic terminal? I have 2.5h layover - will this be enough?

Reporting live from the FM7 hotel near CGK… but then again I have a self booked 36 hour transit.

You should definitely be able to transfer. When alighting from the first flight, follow the signs to immigration but before you get there you’ll see on the right hand side the large Transit signed desks, next to the Visa on Arrival desks.

Up to you whether you want to spend 9 hrs in CGK T3… SIN it ain’t! There are sufficient places to get food and drink and you could easily get 10,000 steps up walking from one end of the terminal and back, probably only twice.

If you did decide to head to an airport hotel you’d be up for a Rp500K / AUD50 visa and about $60-$80 for a hotel. Ibis Styles is the lower end and FM7 at the higher. I don’t know if they do ‘day rooms’. After coming off my flight and checking in I headed to the gym and spent an hour running/walking. The cardio machines look over the pool and sauna. Not many about the pool area in the evening now but other times I’ve been here it can be a bit of a zoo during the day.

I’ve had three Ibis Styles CGK stays this year. What’s good is the easy late check out and free private transfer back to the airport (even has mere Accor Gold). The most recent stay, I was actually proactively offered a free private transfer from the airport - which was nice.

I’ve not stayed at the Ibis Budget next door but that’s cheaper again.

Thanks so much Scarlett - LOL re 'SIN it ain't' (although not much is!). Good tip re hotels to consider too --- loved the 'reporting live' (this is why we love AFF isn't it ;)

I guess it depends whether Vietnam Airlines interlines with Garuda, but I assume they do, since they're both Skyteam airlines.
