Transit Visa for India - NEED HELP

That’s coz It’s not a passport and more like a permanent visa .
Yes, I had one experience where I had a new AUS passport that didn't contain the original OCI sticker. I only carried the (seperate) OCI card with me and they wouldn't accept my OCI upon arrival into Delhi. After being taken into some managers office and explaining my case that I shouldn't be carrying an expired Australian passport, where the original OCI Sticker was placed, they eventually let me in.

Now on that basis anytime I think I may even remotely end up entering India, I carry my old expired Australian passport, and admire the photo of a 20yr+ younger me !

That requirement of carrying the expired passport with the visa stamp has been officially done away with . You can carry just the oci card .
Also because of change in facial features you need to renew the oci card when you turn 20 ? And 50 ? I think .

Yep at 50...I got the OCI just before I was 20, and remember thinking 50..pffft thats so far away.

<Narrators voice> it isn't.

Can spouses now receive OCI by marriage? When I applied this wasn't the case.
The irony was that my wife who isn't of Indian origin, could apply for a Person of Indian Origin (PIO).
Yes though if you separate they need to renounce it .
How is scenario in your second sentence possible ?

I don't know if this is still the case, I could apply to be a PIO, and my wife would be given this by marriage. I could then become an OCI, and she couldn't. So despite my not being a citizen of India I would be an OCI, and her not being of Indian original could be a PIO.

Lets face it, it's the beauacracy that India craves rather than a workable solution!

The PIO card is no longer offered or valid . Holders were directed to convert to OCI .
The OCI as improvement on the PIO card and was always superior .

Hi Guys,

I will be transiting India twice on my trip around the world. First is an overnight stopover (8 hours) the second is about 16 hours.
We don't mind staying in the airport / hotel but have read (qantas website) that we have to clear immigration to recheck our bags in... meaning we will need visas.
The direct application with the government is stupidly complicated and i think requires a trip to the consulate?! Otherwise with ivisa it will cost $140 USD per person!

Does anyone know if there is an easy/economical solution to this predicament i have put myself in hahaha
I have a 22hr transit in Bangalore. Will I need to spend $140USD on a visa ?

Thanks in advance.

Can confirm, $10 USD for 30 day tourist visa - just did mine. Plus 50c or something paypal fee.

Bloody hell, that's expensive for a visa. Where did you get that figure ?

Seems that poor old Isolated got suckered by one of those dodgy eVisa sites that looks like official government one. This would seem to be in spite of the myriad warnings on the gov.in site to avoid them. Ho hum....
