Regarding the following instructions for transiting at Brisbane from International to Domestic:

You are required to collect your bags from the carousel and clear Customs and Quarantine. After entering the Arrivals Hall, turn right and walk to the far wall to the Domestic Transfer Desk. If you are booked on formal Codeshare flights (one ticket for the entire journey) check in for your domestic flight at a Virgin Australia check-in counter. Here you will receive a bus pass, to use to transfer to the Domestic Terminal. Upon arriving at the Domestic Terminal, make your way to your departure gate.

If I'm arriving from LAX on VA8 with only carry-on and have my BP for Sydney issued in the US, do I still need to check-in with the domestic transfer desk or can I make my way straight to the domestic terminal? DO I have to use the bus or can I take the train?

Not sure if you have to check-in, I suspect you do. But the bus is free with the voucher they give you, and its a quick/smooth trip.

I'm actually checking in at JFK and usually when I do this I get my BP for LAX-SYD as well. I hope the DL check-in staff at JFK can give me my VA BP for BNE-SYD as well although when arriving at LAX the VA ground staff usually reprint the DL-issued BP on their own stock.

As to transiting to the domestic terminal at BNE I'm wondering of the frequency and travel time of te bus is better or worse than the train. It would be nice to see if I can get on an earlier flight to SYD.

The bus is definitely better than train unless you have timetable in hand at the exact time you arrive.

The train used to be free for Qantas boarding pass holders. Not sure if that's still the case.

Also the note with the train you have an additional 300-400 metre walk each end where as the bus is pretty much door to door.

If you receive your domestic boarding pass when you check in at LAX or JFK, you are checked in for that flight, and don't need to again (unless there is some exceptional reason). Just make your way to the domestic terminal via the bus.

Whoever is issuing the vouchers for the train may not realise the bus is now free for all.

I realise the OP is travelling HLO but not sure what the VA deadline is for bag drop off at the transfer desk at BNE Intl when on a connecting domestic flight.

With QF to QF int to dom connection you need to drop off the bag no later than one hour prior to your onward connecting flight.

If under one hour you need to take it with you on the TBus and drop it off at checkin at least 30 mins prior to flight departure & must be done with a CSA as the bag tag is already active so the auto bag drops won't work.

Is this a recent change? The self serve bag drops have accepted active tags in the past at least in SYD and MEL transiting I->D.
