Both the upper dexk exit row window seats have accessible side storage bins ... somewhat more on the K side.

Thinking about this overnight it would be really fun to see him in F! QF93 was available when I did my morning check, so fingers crossed for when it is actually time to do the booking :)
So having already managed to get J MEL to Lax on a 747, I was really excited this morning to snaffle F on QF12 for him. I have selected 2A and have sent an email to let him know what I have done. He has no idea I was going to look for F for him, it will be such a surprise. Honestly I am more excited about this than if it were for myself! Qantas should be paying me a commission - I have already talked him into paying for J when he semi retires next year - after this he will probably be prepared to pay for F :)

I ended up jumping on a US$1300 sale via LAX before the non-stop SFO flights got government approval, and then had the booking changed to the non-stop flights at no fees.
Being a sale fare, it's not upgradable, but hey at least I got a good deal for non-stop flights :)

Well done! I too booked some award flights in F recently. A truly nerve wracking experience until the seats are secure! For SYD-DXB seats 1A-3A and some others were unavailable (and this was one hour after the seats had been released 355 days in advance of the flight date) but then later 1A opened up so I snagged it. From LAX-SYD the whole F cabin was available for selection and 2A has been locked in ever since.

I trust you'll tell your friend all the things to look out for to maximise his F experience :)

Oh yes definitely - a pity it is on return, so he won't see the Syd F lounge or go to the Spa but TBIT should be good. The whole F cabin was open, so it was easy to choose (although Mr FM says I should have gone for 1A - we differ in opinion on the best seat. :) ). It was quite nerve wracking doing this and I managed to shut down my browser half way through the booking, but fortunately the seat was still there! I did start the search at 10am exactly. :)
