Travel agent credit card surcharges

Not sure that advertising a 1.5% discount for cash would have that much appeal. I always aim higher when trying for discounts :)

Think of it this way - if you're offered a 10% discount for cash at your favourite whitegood store, they've factored this into their margins already, essentially you could be paying a 10% surcharge for playing by credit card/finance.

That's all well and good when negotiating a discount on a fridge, but on an airline ticket, good luck

To give an indication on fees.

The company i work for (travel based) charges 1.4% regardless of card (which seems to impress the Amex & Diners users).

however online its all over the place. some sites we run is no fee, some sites is $3.85 bkg fee, some sites it is $4.85.

can get quite confusing.

But if you knew all our brands were interlinked (and they all spit out the same price) i would just tell you to go to one site which doesnt have the fee and that way you save the $3.85 or whatever

As FC agents seem to act as the merchant rather than using the airline, I wonder if they quote the tickets including the YR and then exempt it when issuign the tickets and keep the $25/7.70 for themselves, and then have their markup on their credit card fee too?

It wouldnt surprise me if they did, I know in the good old days it was possible to do so.

I dare say its got more to do with whatever markup over gross theyve put on the ticket which would be lost or exposed to you if they charged the card through to the airline as the airline will only accept payment to a max. of gross plus taxes, nothing else.
