We will apply for the seniors rail card , purchasable for our distance trains
Just wondering if there are any other discounts in UK
. Obviously not eligible for their Seniors Oyster card as we don't live in London :)
Husband was adamant he had his oyster card noted with his age last Sept . Appears to not make any difference

You can add your seniors railcard to your Oyster card but it has to be done at particular stations

Edit - spelling

Does that make a difference?
This has to be done manually, at manned ticket offices (are any left?) or via an appropriate staff member at a station. It's not for the faint hearted.

However, you can get the Railcard discount off Underground, and all other rail services in the London area by purchasing a Travelcard. Done it myself at Heathrow (I also have an Oyster card) and it can save you quite a bit.

You have to caulculate to see if worthwhile, but have you instead considered purchasing a Seniors Eurailpass (became valid in UK as well if a Global one from 2019) or BritRail Pass?

These give you flexibility (missing from point-to-point tickets, which sometimes are only valid for a particular train on a particular day) and are available for various periods of consecutive travel, or 'X days in Y period'.

Senior Railcard

If you're 60 or over, you can get 1/3 discount on off-peak pay as you go travel. Add your discount to an Oyster card.

You can also buy discounted Off-Peak Day Travelcards to travel:

  • At any time on weekends and public holidays
  • After 09:30, Monday to Friday

Peak and off-peak times

We charge higher fares at the busiest times of the day.

Peak and off-peak fares are charged based on the time you touch in.

Using pay as you go

On Tube, DLR, London Overground, Elizabeth line and National Rail services in London:

  • Peak fares - Monday to Friday (not on public holidays) between 06:30 and 09:30, and between 16:00 and 19:00
  • Off-peak fares - at all other times and if you travel from a station outside Zone 1 to a station in Zone 1 between 16:00 and 19:00, Monday to Friday
All Tube and Elizabeth journeys to and from Heathrow Airport are charged peak fares if they start, end or go through Zone 1.

If you're travelling on London Overground between Euston (National Rail station) and Watford Junction:

  • Peak fares - from Watford Junction towards Euston (Southbound), Monday to Friday between 06:30 and 09:30 (not on public holidays). From Euston towards Watford Junction (Northbound), peak fares apply Monday to Friday between 16:00 and 19:00 (not on public holidays)
  • Off-peak fares - at all other times

@Melburnian1 as our days are pretty well set in concrete when we are leaving various cities I think the point to point work out better for us.
Handy to know about the seniors rail pass though , thanks :)

@VPS that must be what the staff member did for husband at the station.
Oops it did make a difference, better say sorry to husband lol
