shows +2 minutes to the station, but -1 for the walk (how SHORT a time do they STOP). Either wouldn't bother me and thank you for the advice, this may be the better option, lots of reviews are against the CLIMB up to shangri-la. Just to verify, Wynyard is the next stop after Circular Quay Right?

My vote would definitely not be for the climb up the hill... but you may be a fitness fanatic...

Yes, the trains from Domestic Airport go:
Mascot, Green Square, Central, Town Hall, St. James, Circular Quay, Wynyard, Town Hall, then back through Central and out to the west again.

Depending on how much luggage you have, and how much you could be bothered, you can get off the train at Central the first time (you'll be at Platform 21), and change to Platform 16 or 17, which will take you from Central -> Town Hall -> Wynyard, the other way around the City loop. It sometimes can save you a couple minutes, but I'm talking only a couple minutes. (If you are going to do this, get on the second or third carriage of the train at Domestic, which puts you right near the exit stairs at Central for the platform change).

It just comes down to whether you want to just remain on the train while you go around the loop through Museum, St James, C. Quay etc. though there is a great view of the Harbour, Harbour Bridge and Opera House from Circular Quay station. I'm only talking a matter of minutes here.

if I was to consider this, would this be something like what you mean. I've never even been into a station or tunnel, or anything else of this type so it is hard for me to picture.
Thank you again for your time, and I'm still curious, if the train can make it to another station that far away (not far for a train but still, this is including "stop" time) in 2 mins...how long DO they stop for? Would there be a chance this would take longer if I miss that train that I would have taken?

Here, will this help you picture it... Though I did it in reverse tonight, moving from platforms 18-19 to 22-23 to get a train out to Mascot from Wynyard.

The stairs down to the tunnel (this is at the top of your map. You can just see the elevator/lift at the end of the platform/stairs if you have luggage.

Back in the train at platform 23 and looking across the platforms to where I came from. Apologies for the poor photo quality. I was rushing to catch the next train.

The trains stop for about 30 seconds to a minute at each station. Enough time for the doors to open, people to get off, people get on, doors close and then it goes again.

In your case, I'd just stay on the train, go around the Loop and get off at Wynyard.

Definitely get off at Wynyard. Then you'll get to see the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge out the right hand window when you pass through Circular Quay!

Oh, and I have a friend from Chicago who incorrectly pronounces Quay as "Kway"... it is actually pronounced "Key". If you ask someone here how to get to "Circular Kway", they may take a moment to realise where you mean. (Though this is similar to me trying to find the "Ren-Ay-ssance" Hotel in LA until someone said "Oh you mean 'Ren-Ah-ssance'".).

Thank you again, as for key quay,i still think of it..... When reading it, incorrectly, but have the habit of pronouncing correctly as my friend doesn't like hearing certain things (key, bane, born)

I would definitely take the train to the city. I drive around the city for work and you don't want to be stuck in traffic that time of the morning watching the meter tick over.

If you like drinking a glass of wine or two, look out for Wine Oddessey down in the Rocks. Less than a 5 minute walk from your hotel. Great range of Australian wines to sample in the front bar area.

Blu Bar on 36 in the hotel is also fantastic for a drink. I know the wine buyer and they have some great Australian wines.

Enjoy the trip through Sydney

Cheers, Mat

Personally I'd get off the train at Circular Quay (I do every morning and walk around to Millers Point where my office is)

Wynyard is the busiest by passenger count station in Australia and always crowded, hot and a pain in the neck with multiple exits to the street.

If you exit Wynyard via the wrong exit you'll still have to walk up the hill, it's short and sharp. The Quay is less crowed and straight away give a better vibe to Sydney.

Oh buoy that could cause confusion. ;)

watts two con fuse any won, it really is rather simple to under stand. I kid :) and now only 30 days left!

From memory you're on QF8 right? There are usually a certain number of empty seats in economy on this flight due to weight restrictions as the flight is so long. After take-off, go for a walk around the economy cabin as soon as the seatbelt sign is turned off and see if there are any empty blocks of 3/4 seats. If there are, it's yours to take and spread out on! Your flight will be very comfortable if you can get a block, especially if you are able to lift up the armrests between the seats and lie down.

FYI this was the rear section of economy when I flew on QF8 recently:

Hard to believe it was that empty, having said that I am going on an off day (Thursday) but I also have 80A, with all the room for my legs I could want :)
Edit, extra question, will I have access to my carry on while in the air (or do those bins stay closed the whole flight) I plan to have extra food (snack bars) to supplement the airline food, I'm big
Edit 2
And thank you to everyone who has answered, your posts have been most helpful

Overhead lockers are "closed", but they are not locked, so you can access your bag in the overhead locker at any time during the flight (well, except if the seat-belt sign is turned on, I guess).

Good seat, actually that will be pretty hard to beat.

Keep in mind that there should also be some light snacks available for free (as is all food on Qantas - though some Americans don't seem to realise this) in the self-serve snack bar at the back of the plane on the A380.

Seen the pictures and read the info online, besides limited selection quantity limited severely near the end of the flight,i will have roughly 1 meal worth of breakfast bars just in case, I'm fat, I tend to eat at least double the average 375 lbs (~170 kg)

If you ask nicely they might have spare meals as well, if you dont want to just eat bars. Also I find I dont eat as much on a plane. Im sitting there sleeping and watching movies, so you loose sence of oh its lunch time i need to eat and you arent doing much to burn energy. But no issue with taking extra food, if you dont end up eatting it you have snacks during the day your out sightseeing

It is best if you don't eat a lot of sugar as it can make you feel a bit antsy. Same with coffee as our coffee tends to be stronger than American stuff. Having said that, eating can help make time pass, and one tends to start focusing on food. Don't forget to drink lots of water, walking to the toilet means you have to move around a bit which is also good for you.

I'll have to add sugar to the list of avoid, i can't drink coffee (upsets my stomach) and I don't drink alcohol, but I've been told to avoid caffeine (soda) in favor of water, with the dual purpose of staying hydrated (to fight jet lag and dvt) and so it makes you get up for the restroom, which is good for restlessness and dvt, (I'm gonna miss coke for that short time)

Nothing wrong with having coke honestly, just don't drink 2L of it and don't drink it instead of water.
If you generally drink a lot of it, you may end up with headaches if you stop drinking it for a few days
