Travel plans 2024

Just locked in our first trip in 2024, hopping across to NZ South Island for 9 days, as MrsK hasn't been there before. Rough planning at this stage is to grab a car in Christchurch, and spend a couple of days there, do a lazy loop down the coast to Dunedin for a couple of days, up to Queenstown for a few days, stop at Lake Tekapo, and then back into Christchurch. I'm spreading the travel over Easter, to get the most out of my leave.

Burnt some points to fly into Christchurch via Melbourne in QF J, and then back from Christchurch via Sydney on EK J. First trip for MrsK in an A380 in J (and me on EK), plus we'll get to check out the onboard bar.

For the second year in a row I'm going to go to Italy, but I still can't make it. In the spring of 2024, I will finally go there with my wife.

You will both enjoy that @kookaburra75 - then you need to set your sights on EK F✈️!
Unfortunately, there were no F seats available for redemption - otherwise I might have gone for that option. MrsK said she thought that would be a waste anyway, but if she had tried it, I'm sure she would have enjoyed it (and wanted it for all future flights). We'll 'slum' it in J instead.

I'm excited to be going to Italy next year! I love Italy and it's been a long time. Doing a circuit of the south... Rome, Naples, Amalfi Coast, Sicily then across to Puglia and back to Rome. I grabbed some great fares on Singapore Airlines so looking forward to comfortable flying. Stopping over a couple of days in Singapore both ways, another place I haven't been for decades. Hopefully April/May will be pleasant and not mega crowded!

My experience of May in Naples / Amalfi is that it’s relatively quiet. It’s also delicious and the art in Naples is terrific. Enjoy!

New job which means more travelling, so USA and Canada in February (MEL>DFW>RDU>LGA>JFK>SFO>SEA>LAX>MEL) then holidays in April to Bora Bora. May is back to India with a visit to Vizag.

Well, so far, I've booked trips including TIA in March and MLA and BTS in July (amongst other places).. Business class, airlines permitting.

Places I've always been interested in visiting. More to follow.

All great places, but really enjoy BTS (for a 1-2 night trip) and TIA (for a week, get out and about around the country!).

Dual US/AU citizen. Mid-year trip to USA/UK lasting just under six weeks:

PER-SIN-SFO (SQ/UA) Late-May
SFO-LHR(VS) Early-June
LHR-SFO(VS) Late-June
SFO-SIN-PER(UA/SQ) Early-July

At this time no requirement to get UK ETA. It became mandatory last month for Qatar and in March 2024 other middle eastern countries will come into effect. No word yet when it will apply to AU citizens but I am keeping an eye on their website.

My US passport expires July 2024 so will renew that early in new year.

New Zealand with the missus in early Feb. A week of meditation and philosophy near Wellington.

April is my (solo) big trip this year. I enjoyed the trip to Falkirk via Helsinki last June so much I'm doing much the same in June. The convention is being held near Helsinki and it's J all the way, three legs on AY metal.

We'll probably head up to the Gold Coast in Winter; I have no great love of Canberra in the middle of the year. Now that we're retired we'll likely take a couple of days to drive up and a couple more back instead of driving in one headlong rush like the last time. Mind you, it's pretty much freeway all the way nowadays, apart from Coffs Harbour and that bit near Newcastle.

October is a (probably) solo trip to Adelaide for the local convention.

December has a cruise on the Queen Elizabeth down to Hobart and back. The Australian Literary Cruise sponsored by Dymocks with Alexander McCall Smith as the lead speaker. Only five days but should be fun.

I should easily requal as SG but without something extraordinary, WP may remain just a happy memory.

This sounds bibliographically great @Skyring !
Please do another serialised field trip report next year. The last one was brilliant.
I have read all the Scotland St series and met AMcS at book events. Lovely funny man.
I like the look of that Hobart December event to test my husband’s sea legs 🤔

Even though I did the 7 day NYC to Southampton literary festival last year and AMcS was on it (and delightful) I am considering this cruise as well
