Travellers would pay more for better security: survey

No, no, no. Security is already bad enough and further increasing it will only freak more passengers out. I was sitting on a flight last year and was talking to my family on my mobile before the doors had closed to let them know that we were finally leaving (after a lengthy delay). The guy in front of me hadn't flown before and completely flipped out an started yelling at me that talking on my phone could blow the plane up and was breaking security laws. What the %&$?

I think the Chasers summed up airport security quite well. YouTube - Airport Security - The Chaser

be buggered if i would want to pay for more security. How may more checks can they do. More probes.... If somebody wants to do something they will. For goodness sake, the other day i had to remove 2 fishhooks from a lure that came with a fishing magazine. when is enough wnough. The war on terror has been lost. we are all now paying for it, in the loss of freedom.

I think the more we can do to prevenmt anglers getting on board the better ;)

I dont think anyone here is advocating more stringent checks with any seriousness - but a lot of people recognise that the security checks are going to get worse (good election promise to protect us in the skiees) until something happens and then we will have someone to blame for the security checks not being stringent enough and then they will get worse again...

You mean you actually got the knife to cut!
It was more a reflection of the make-up of the "sausage" than the cutting capacity of the knife.

Yup :(

The track we are heading down we will not be allowed to carry anything on, will get manual pat down to ensure nothing in our pockets, and every second seat will be taken by a marshall. By then fares so high that hardly anyone buys a commercial ticket.

I know some americans who quite seriously are recommending their kids work at TSA - it's seen as the most secure job going. No accountability and with security almost always being tightened not loosened very low risk of redundancy.

You mean something like this?
Airports in a flap over bag checks | Aviation | The Australian
I seem to recall that in the last election when Labor tried to expand security screening into more regional airports the government said how bad an idea it was and that there was not additional value for doing it, cost too high etc.

Oh I know of at least one airline that provides metal knives into and out of Australia. I also believe that the cutting motion of a plastic knife is more lethal than these metal knives.

The perception of security (or safety) is often very different to the reality
