Brains trust, I'm hoping to get some information for an upcoming flight I have with MH departing Sydney as I've not flown MH out of Sydney / long haul before:
  • What time does check in open in Sydney (am on MH140 departing at 22:15)?
  • Am I able to use mobile / web check in and avoid going to the desk at check in (will be HLO)?
  • Whilst I have read that MH provides access to the Plaza Premium lounge, I assume I can use the QF First Lounge (am P1 with QF) due to MH being Oneworld (does anyone know why they would direct passengers to Plaza Premium)?
  • What seat would one recommend in J on the A330 (throne or non-throne)?
  • Has anyone used 'Chef on Call' and would they recommend this?
  • Any other useful tips / tricks / suggestions for flying MH?
Thanks in advance

I was under the impression that chef on call is only available ex KUL.
MH 140 is a night flight so personally I’d choose a window single over the throne. The latter has more storage and workspace but I think the footwell is smaller and the window single offers more privacy.

Yes

Probably cost? Or maybe a hangover from when the QF lounges closing earlier.

I used Chef on call a couple of times pre covid on MH. Once was on the 2215 flight where I ordered the Beef short ribs not even considering it's be the pre landing meal, was still good for breakfast😀

Travelling LHR-KUL-MEL-KUL-LHR.

We leave the UK start of April and return 3rd week of April.

I have a frustrating situation developing with Malaysia Airlines – albeit relatively minor,

Their website states you can pre order specific meals. I don’t mean special dietary requirements, I mean ordering a Lasagne or Lasagna as they refer to it. They call it Chef on Call. But it’s simply pre ordering specific meals. Here’s the websites

Even though I have sent them the links to their own website they’re saying this is only for business class. However, the links above say it can be done for Economy passengers. I don’t have the option to pre order any meals in MMB (apart from special dietary meals).

I was in contact with Twitter team and they advised me to phone. The call centre put me on hold for 30 minutes after me explaining for 10 minutes what I was trying to do, then said that it wasn't available on my flights. So I've not got much confidence in anything I hear from MH.

Is there any other contact point with more knowledge and willingness to help ?

The pre order meal service whether J or Y is only for the KUL-MEL and KUL-LHR sectors.

Don't know why you can't do it in MB, but if they won't, then they won't. Maybe worth a HUACA or three
