Hi there

Looking for some assistance please from you travel gurus.

Planning a trip to Italy with the adult family and trying to figure out the best flights to get me there.

Was thinking of going via HK, with a stop over in both directions.

I understand, and please correct me if I am wrong, that I can't fly Qantas Syd/HK and then HK/Rome with Cathay.

Is this correct ?

I appreciate that I could fly Cathay all the way but was going to use some FF points on the Syd/HK leg, hence my idea to fly with Qantas.

Do you guys have any other suggestions so that I can incorporate a HK stopover ?

Of course there is Emeriates via Dubai and Singapore Airlines via S'pore, but had my mind fixed on HK.

Greatly appreciate what advice you can offer.

cheers

QF do have the Codeshare - QF3861 that is operated by CX.

I can find options with QF to HKG and CX (QF Codeshare to FCO).

If you were looking at having the stopover and using points for certain legs, you would probably have to make each return section (SYD-HKG) and (HKG-FCO) as seperate bookings.

Thank you for the very quick reply.

So hypothetically could I buy a Syd/HK return with Qantas and a seperate HK/FCO return with CX ?

Would this be more expensive than buying a combined fare ?

If that was possible I was thinking Permium Economy with Qantas and Economy with CX.

I appreciate that a travel agent could answer these questions, but as they say " forewarned is for forarmed".

Thanks again for your advice.

cheers

This comes up as an option when searching, note the below is economy prices, flying Early Jan 2013

Thats fantastic, thank you.

I tried searching on the Qantas site myself, but the only options if I wanted a stop in HK was via London.

Did you generate that result from doing a multi-city search ??

Thanks again.

Looks like I will be able to get the flight I am after.

cheers

Nope ,not Multi-city, just a basic Sydney to Rome and then scrolling down the list to find the appropriate connections. It may have to do with which day of the week you're entering.

There is no reason why could couldn't do that.

If you were looking at a stop over that wouldn't be an issue with missed connections.

There are times where the two separate fares are cheaper, however you lose that security if you do not make your other bookings.

It is probably something you would need to look into.

The benefit of all being on one booking is a delay will be sorted out by the airline. Given that you want a stoppover in HKG both ways, the risks in delayed flights having a knock on effect gets reduced.
