I believe that your options are Qantas, Jetstar and Hawaiian Airlines (all to Sydney) and only Air Australia (ex Strategic Airlines) to Brisbane.

If you are flying business then Air Australia's 2-2-2 A330's may be slightly better than QF 767's with 2-2-2 and are both miles better than Jetstar's 2-3-2 A330

It may be worth looking at fares from Honolulu to Manilla if you can find a cheap way of getting from Manilla back into Australia. Via Tahiti may be another option but not sure if it would work out any cheaper than the direct options.

Cheapest option from Sydney in Y is currently with Air Pacific via Nadi. This is the start of the school holidays so you will struggle to find much outbound at a reasonable price.

Did you book direct through a cruise company or go through a travel agent? Some cruise companies have special one way fly-cruise airfares so I would ring the cruise company and ask them.

I hope they told you to get a visa for the USA. Just in case they didn't here's the link below to the official site which costs USD14.00 pp. There are many other sites out there who also do but but charge USD50.00 plus so don't get caught out.

I wonder if you are on the same cruise as us???
I booked a JASA to LAX some time ago and we'll do an AA mileage run while we are over there.

Our kids and one other are using some points to join us too.
One is flying to AKL on a paid QF flight then points to NAN and HNL in J on Air Pacific.
The other 3 are flying to NAN paid on AP then two are in Y & one in J to HNL using points.

Looking forward to a family holiday!

Actually the 767's that QF use on this route have 25 J seats at 1-2-2 with 50 inches of seat pitch. The Air Australia seats have 48 inches according to their website.

thanks for your help everyone. cruise co cant help cost two many points on lousy jetstar cost of $700.00 one way &more on hawaiian..maybe air pacific...who is.air australia. i thought one way syd to honolulu.around $500 all up or am i dreaming.

Jetstar - around $565 but blows out to $604 if you want baggage and meals, and blows further out to $1312 for MAX bundle
Qantas - around $1498 in Y (just not competative in my opinion)
Hawaiian Airlines - around $895 in Y
Air Pacific - around $837 in Y but requires a stop in Nandi

Or if you are closer to Brisbane:

Air Australia - $499 in Y but only 2 or 3 flights a week so you have to get the days right to match your cruise departure

I had a look on the QF website and its very time consuming (as I haven't figured out how to exclude JQ from my search results when looking at fares) but it seem that one way fares from SYD-HNL are pretty much stuck at $1.5K anytime throughout the year (and up to $2K in peaks). I wouldn't be paying those fares out of my pocket thats for sure......

Is it simply military transfers/traffic that keep these prices stuck high? I couldn't imagine there would be a business market flying between Honolulu and Australia....

Nothing wrong with the dreamtime seats. Air Australia seems to mention digi players, so not sure about that.

I would be steering clear of Air Australia, due to their small fleet.

However the OP is looking at Y flights back home.

My suggestion would be to look at somewhere like Skyscanner.net as it will give you an idea of what you are up for.

Not with JQ, I thinking its those that want a bit more comfort, use of Q lounges and like me want the full J points for low cost (its less than half the price of Q flights in J also no flat beds).

In my case SYD/HNL/SYD was a no brainer for wife & self with JQ, OK no flat bed seats, bit more room, rather ordinary, BUT paid on special in J inc full QFF points and status @ $2150 each, was able to get bulkhead seats on way back could just touch wall in front, was a 10 hour flight. Having done this very same trip 2 years ago was rather surprised at the excellent FA service and even the food.

As status silver, wife received 20.296 flying points and 280 status, myself as gold 22,834 plus 280 status points, I'm now close to plat.

As I read it - the OP was on a cruise from HNL back to SYD so needed to fly from Australia to Honolulu - unless I am reading it wrong somehow :shock:

But anyway - I agree that you would definatly want your Travel Insurance lined up properly as I agree that with the small A330 fleet that Air Australia have that an aircraft going tech somewhere could really wreck your plans. Having said that - Strategic and Air Australia haven't had a huge amount of cancellations and delays for their size - although Strategic/Air Australia havent got a huge fleet or network so difficlut to get stats on on-time performance....

Sounds like you got a much more reasonable deal Limewood - I reckon SYD-HNL-SYD return in J for $2150 per person is a good price, but would you pay that per person to fly in Y? Actually - one way in Y?

I believe the Qantas dreamtime seat is still used. A favorite of mine for some reason.
