Travelling with a 6mth old for the first time

My daughter is not quite 8 months old yet and she has already done 36 flights. She sleeps for most of the short 1 hour flights and wakes up close to descent and wife has milk bottle ready for her.

Most likely is the ear pressure but our 9-month old is a fussy feeder and won't breastfeed or take a bottle or dummy in public 75% of the time...doesn't help that he's smack in the middle of teething too. Our main strategy is just to avoid flying or postpone travelling where possible but this trip was unavoidable unfortunately. No-one likes having a screaming baby on their flight, but I guarantee you that the parents like it even less. As I said, most people were extremely understanding, and the other young mother sitting next to us on the flight home was so helpful also when we were almost at our wits end.

It's actually made me examine my pre-baby attitude, and I curse my younger self for not having more compassion for parents travelling with young children.

Wow. That's a lot of flying. She obviously doesn't have ear pressure issues.

Not yet. I think the ear pressure issues start at 12-18 months? She has been teething from 6 months and she is getting better with each flight.

Reporting back, the MEL checkin staff frowned when asked whether we could gate check our pram.. At oversized check in they didn't proactively offer a "courtesy" stroller but was happy to fetch one from the back when asked. Ironically, the gate agents offered to gate check (their) stroller when we rolled to the gate.
