Travelodge UK removes Bibles from all guestrooms

I've never understood the point of them being in hotel rooms. It just feels a bit ethnocentric/culturally arrogant to think that all your guests think that a bible is needed in their room. If you want a Bible, then BYO. I don't really need them cluttering up my usually small room.

I'm a great supporter of the late Christopher Hitchens, I have no desire to have a Bible at arms reach, however I have no objection to Bibles in Christian countries and other flavours in Asia and the East.

I have seen Bibles in hotel rooms. I have seen Qurans. I have seen Buddhist books in hotel rooms in Thailand from memory. Quite easy to ignore if you are not interested.

This decision stinks because a vocal minority do not want to conform and want everything their way all the time.

We don't need to look overseas. Happens quite regularly in our own backyard.

Another aspect of the British way of life given up in favour of keeping some overly vocal minority who make no effort to fit in happy.

EXACTLY! Why they let the American Gideons put the bibles in everyone's hotel rooms is beyond me. Good to see it being finally undone after all these years.

That article did add some useful information.
- The decision was not based on any complaint or request from anyone.
- The books don't cost the hotel chain anything as they get them for free.
- The books are still available from the front desk for those who want them.

Another interesting thing I thought was 25% of people said they read the Bible in the hotel rooms. If that is the case, I can't see the logic behind removing them.
