Sitting in the Qantas club in Perth waiting for the flight to Broome, first time in the lounge since the new lounge opened. Lounge is definitely quieter, would estimate 50% of what I would normally expect.

So what is ahead in Broome, 4 days of nothing, time to recharge the batteries. Never been to Broome so looking forward to it.

Hired a car from Avis with 6 points per dollar and free upgrade at check in.... Hmmm have my doubts

For such a premium airfare compared to interstate flights a very disappointing flight

Positives
- left on time and arrived ahead of schedule
- flight was empty
- flight crew exceptional especially Brad, one of the best in my opinion
- great views into Broome, select the left side

negatives
- Bland tasteless food, a choice of a corned beef sandwich or a chicken pie and a snack size twix
- No back of seat IFE
- TV selecting the news and grand designs

app is playing up can't upload images

Hmm still can't upload images, will edit posts to add images

Congrats to Avis, got the upgrade yahoo and checked my QF number to ensure I got my points

First port of call is always the supermarket for emergency supplies, bottled water, soft drink and munchies ( healthy muesli bars and chips ), then a short drive to Cable beach resort

Upon arrival a glass of bubbly, pleasant checkin experience and the normal 10 minute induction

Within 20 minutes we were unpacked and sunning it by the adult only pool, reasonable shade, not enough sun beds and average age must be 60 plus...

Photos of pool and room coming soon

Time for the sunset, 5 minutes walk from our room across the road and we are on the infamous Cable beach, to the left is the non 4 wheel beach, tide is out so plenty of rocks and pools of water to explore.

Walked to the 4 wheel drive part of the beach, this is where the camels are, two tour companies red and blue.

You can do a morning, pre sunset and sunset tour ( morning tours) don't always run. bookings are required and most expensive ride is $85 for a hour tour. If you weigh more than 90kg you have to advise them.

We are going to do this tomorrow, so time for dinner, at the exit to the beach you have 2 options, one does take away and the other is pub foods, we chose pub food Sunset bar and grill. Outside table watching the sun go down and food was good.

Early start this morning so early to bed....

Seriously Qantas. full service airline and this is the food you serve ?IMG_0110.jpgIMG_0111.jpg

Sunbed on the veranda, other side had a table and two chairs

Rooms are well fitted out with air conditioning and ceiling fan

We had two concerns with the room and water temperature constantly changing as other showered, our biggest gripe was the wedding reception outside our room on Saturday night.
Reception was supposed to advise us of this at check-in and a reminder note under the door, which we didn't receive, response from management about the noise was disappointing.

Directly in front of the resort is Cable beach where only the brave swim, when there are crocs, sharks and stingers can be found, but it is the place to see the sunset, camels

There are two restaurants over looking the beach Zanders and Sunset Grill and Bar

Walking along the beach you wil see some amazing rock formations

Sunset is always better with some clouds about

One of my pet hates - hotels that sell facilities and experience to guests, then re-sell them to others for functions. When this happens to me I make a point of seeking out the highest level manager I can find and make the point to him/her: a guest is entitled to the quiet enjoyment of their room and the hotel facilities in general.

In a fit or rage I did have a cough on Trip Advisor .. but will have to add to the comments

Will add more details on places we eat and outline some of the tours we have done

Booking through the hotel, we picked two side trips, tour of Willie Creek Pearl Farm and Whale Watching Cruise. ( Cost for both tours for 2 adults was $460)

We choose the self drive out to Willie Creek about 40K's out of Broome with the majority of the trip on sealed roads it was a okay drive.

First part of the tour is centered around the pearling process, very interactive and informative

IMG_0552.jpg

Final result a pearl

After the talk, you take a boat ride out to see the pearl frames and if you are lucky, meet the local croc

IMG_0553.jpg

We took the lunch time tour which includes lunch and we were luckily with only 6 other tourers, the next tour had about 25

This is a setup pearl farm with only one string of pearl frames, they farm their pearls else where

Whilst eating lunch, it was recommended that we should tour the Malcolm Douglas Wildlife Park and looking at Google maps it was basically on the way back to Broome.

Cost to get in was $40 per adult and is only open between 2 and 5 pm, recommend getting there before 3, as they do a guided tour.

First part of the tour is you get to handle some baby crocs

Note between you and the crocs is a cyclone fence

After feeding the main croc lake, he walks around the park, feeding the alligators, fresh water crocs, breeding crocs in total taking about a 1 hour whilst providing facts and funny stories about crocs.

it is called a Wildlife park, so you can see a good selection of Australian birds, bats, dingos, but it is a Croc park more than anything.

This was the highlight whilst in Broome and would highly recommend it

Thanks for the TR clazman.

PS. The photos on the last post are not showing for me.

Cable Beach Resort offers food in 4 locations from 3 restaurants

Sunset Bar and Grill , is the main restaurant and also provides food for the pool area and room service.
Personally didn't enjoy the dinner menu, but had a great breakfast every day.
Located by the beach you can watch the sunset or simply enjoy a cold beer
