Troubles in Noumea

Back in February we booked through Qantas BNE to Nou on oct 23 and nou to syd on nov 3.
E ticket has been issued when booked and paid.
Do I sit and wait for Qantas to call me or do I call them and hope the operator knows about the upcoming flights?????

I called Qantas and they knew about the situation and what the allowed options were.

But, according to the Qantas website, currently only tickets "issued on or before 27 June 2024, for travel until 31 August 2024" currently qualify for "flexibility, including a refund".

The French Army will solve the problem.
The problem is the way they're "solving" the problem isn't helping. As recent as Wednesday someone was killed by police:

It's two months today this has been going on and there doesn't seem to be any clear sign of things improving. It's been over a month since the mainland sent in the military for a fully blown police operation and it's really not clear what it achieved towards a resolution.

Thats why I'll sit on the fence for a while longer - and it will depend a little on what Smart traveller says.
I have Samoa as a fall back but I'll wait and see what Qantas say.

I wonder what happens to all the cruise lines in the upcoming season that stops over at New Caledonia (Noumea, Lifou etc)? Are the ships getting diverted to other countries or they simply stay on the sea and not dock?

But what are the chances of getting Tavel Insurance?
I doubt you'd find a single travel insurance provider that covers due to riots. Additionally because this is an ongoing situation (basically a known event) then even less coverage.

Sorry for being MIA after the event. Our travel insurance covered the extra nights in the hotel and all our food claims - even without receipts, but not the extra days of rental car hire. However we bought the insurance before the troubles.

Last year I looked at maybe travelling to Noumea. Although, no travel insurance = no-go for me, anywhere, not just Noumea. So, that’s off the radar for this year I guess.

And I believe Air New Zealand have cancelled all flights for the next 4 months.

YEEEEHAAAAA!!!!
Just got an email from Qantas confirming a flight change to Noumea.
We have moved from Oct 23 BNE-NOU to Oct 22 SYS-NOU.
I have checked with our travel insurance provider (RAA) and there are no issues with TA as there is no "do not travel" advice from smart Traveler.
I cant do much at present with Qantas due to the IT issues, but at this stage, it looks like we are going to go.
Qantas will need to change our booking ADL-BNE on the 23rd to ADL-SYD on the 22nd.
Feeling better about the whole thing now.
