If I purchase a good for $500 which includes the use of a $100 gift voucher, do I get $50 back or only $40?
You get the GST back on the price paid.... what is stated on the invoice....10%
should not matter if paid with cards/cash etc

Thanks for that. So, in my example, $50 not $40, even though I actually only 'paid' $400?
Well you did pay $500 (voucher plus cash/cc), so the tax invoice should reflect that figure

Unless the gift voucher is a discount $100 voucher, then the invoice might be $400 total only.
It all depends on the GST stated on the tax invoice

What does the receipt say about the value of the goods? How you pay is irrelevant.

I haven't bought anything yet. As it's not an essential purchase I'd only consider it if I get the full GST.

The logic of the invoice saying $500 makes sense.

The refund amount is based on the cost of the item, irrespective of how payment is made.

So, the tax invoice will say the item cost $500 so the GST refund is $45.45 (divide by 11 to get the refund amount)

Super. Now all I need is the $500!
