Well that looks Truly horrid!

No mention about points/stays/nights/HH benefits.

Showed this article to Lady Cool Cat today and she replied:
"Looks like a Giant Food Court, with excessive noise of kids screaming and parents not giving a s**t. But the occasional 'Harmony and Chase come here!'"

But in all seriousness, this new hotel format may work very well in the USA, although not to sure in Australia.

My initial impression was that I like to transit the lobby usually as quickly as possible to get away from the usual chaos........this concept places ones "chill out" zone right in the centre of it!

Who cares about tiny rooms as long as we can use our mobiles to check-in

The lobby decor reminds me a QT resort.

I've never tried a QT but others I know quite like them.

This funky hip idea is far from new though, Branson tried it with DJ (and what a PITA that was) and of course many of the tech companies tried it with workspaces. I haven't seen either of them transition too far forward so I'm not convinced a hotel that either locks you in a tiny room, or expects you to mingle happily with the masses will work that well. I guess it's just a flashed up backpackers.

looks like theyre responding to Aloft, free breakfast is good - there is space for this type of chain in Australia

not sure that boasting about how they wash their linens and use febreeze is a selling point though!

Certainly not my style or taste, but I don't think we are the main targets.
I'd say I fit in the age brackets of their target audience but certainly prefer the style of Hiltons/Conrad etc...

Pricing will apparently be even cheaper than Alofts and closer to US Best Western rates.

More 'hip' but certainly not upmarket. Not budget either.

Very much an aloft knockoff.
102 signed deals is interesting, albeit only mentions US locations -- suspect much better than the tired HGIs in most of the US

Have stayed at aloft KUL and BKK.. Both are reasonably priced, slightly funky hotels in good locations.

It seems to be like the premier inn where you check in electronically and also priced very cheaply

I actually really like the concept - I still enjoy hostels because of the common areas where you get to meet other people, but also enjoy having my own room for sleeping. I often book private rooms in hostels for this reason. Now I can do that and earn points! (presumably)

I wouldn't be betting on that assumption. Their web site mentions absolutely nothing (that I can find) about HHonors and the HHonors website does not make any mention of them. Sure they may be slow making the connection, but it may be more reasonable for a brand which cuts out a wardrobe to save money, possibly taking the hatchet to all unnecessary costs. Let's face it, the Hilton family already have tiered benefits across its portfolio.......one more tier (ie: no benefit) is not beyond belief.

I also don't see anything spectacular about the pricing if that does turn out to be true. US$100 for a tiny room with nothing but a donut for breakfast...........makes my stays at H-CNS look very reasonable.

Priced at 90-100 USD, designed to fit bellow hampton inn

here's what the global head of hilton tru had to say:

Hilton announces new affordable hotel brand, Tru

You can be confident about points. Tru is going to be their midscale brand so I cannot see them withholding points earn.

Which depending upon locations serviced (they mentioned highway and airport locations IIRC), may seem too dear in my book, especially if it turns out there will be no HHonors accrual. Do the sums....US$100 = (approx.) AU$139. I currently pay AU$149 for a full service Hilton including a reasonable sized room (the larger of the TRU rooms is just 5mx5m including the bathroom), the chance of a suite upgrade (admittedly not often), full breakfast, exec. lounge, business centre, premium wifi, a nice welcome gift plus full HHonors accrual of points/stays/nights which eventually adds up to free holiday accommodation somewhere. I think I'd prefer to pay the extra $10 to get the benefits, but I guess if TRU's concept is to attract the younger crowd, then they might also be betting on the majority not being aware of the alternatives and just jumping on the "fun and hip" concept. Of course their plan may be to introduce this TRU offering and then jack up all the other brand rates to make it look more attractive.

So in reading that article, I still see absolutely no mention of HHonors benefits, yet you say we can be confident about points? That article also stated they had tried the midscale brand concept with Hampton Inn but for reasons only known to them, they escalated it into something better. Perhaps Hampton wasn't working for them? Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of added choice, but I cannot for the life of me see how we can be confident about points/stays/nights/HHonors benefits and even if we do, the rate will be less than most of the other brands (IE, similar or less than Hampton Inn and Home2 Suites which in the case of the latter is already half the going rate at the others and on room rate only).

Points may be earned for stay at any hotel or resort in the Hilton Worldwide portfolio of brands.
