Trying to force the credit agencies to mark closed CCs as closed sooner

Re Citi, you may want to check that they have actually closed the account.
Yes nasty surprises that can bite u in the rear, I was sent a Coles Mastercard Letterhead confirming the closure, it was quite detailed covering all basis.

[I hate Citi - I only wound up with them again because Latitude sold their book to Citi. About 15 years ago I had a Citi card and they started charging me a few random cents of "government taxes" on each transaction. They wouldn't explain what it was other than government charges. It was complete rubbish so I closed the account and moved on. Then roll forward the best part of a year they send me a letter saying that they had incorrectly charged me some charges and would be refunding it. Except their idea of refunding it was to reopen the account, credit me $3 and then charge me a $250 annual fee. They wouldn't budge on putting their hand out for the annual fee. Took a complaint to the ombudsman before they dropped it. I never did get my $3 back either. I refuse point blank to deal with them now... regardless of how good their signup bonus offers are]

I don't know about your specific case, but I do know Citi refunded a bunch of fees that were charged when payments in AUD were processed overseas. This was due to the charges being incorrectly/not clearly explained.

From memory it was just a couple of basis points and was being added on random transactions. I remember very clearly that what prompted me to call them initially was it being charged on a grocery shop at Woolworths...

Sorry for going OT -

For the benefit of anyone reading this thread in future ... it seems that the correct feature doesn't really seem to help with getting accounts marked as closed any sooner than just waiting for it to happen when the credit provider gets around to it.
