Turkish Airlines flights to Sydney start November 2024

Appears not, but perhaps they are restricted to one (ie MEL-SIN) and don’t want to go down the path of applying for further changes.

I can’t help to think the route would be incredibly loss making however.
Possibly, but i just need to get to KL and my options end up being batik or air asia or Malaysian for direct. It'd be nice if there was an alternative since MH can be quite pricy.

Also TK has some weird things going on. One of the flights they have as flex Y only (almost same price as J) but they also have 9 award seats... What?

I am looking at the following routing:

SYD-AUH TK8621 (operated by Etihad)
AUH-IST TK869
IST-CMN TK617

Will I earn any miles and/or status miles on the SYD-AUH flight? The Turkish call centre agent advised that because this flight was operated by neither Turkish nor a Star Alliance airline, it would be ineligible to earn any miles. Is this correct? TK-numbered codeshare flights don't earn anything at all?

Looking to credit to which program?

Sorry, to TK M&S.
Post #3 in this thread seem to indicate you will earn on a non-star codeshare, as long as you credit to TK. Which of course makes sense… otherwise there’d be a lot of cheesed off FF pax!

I thought that would be the case too but the agent was adamant that TK codeshares on non TK or *A operated flights would not earn in M&S.

Can anyone confirm if passengers stay on the aircraft during the technical stop in KUL on the Turkish Airlines flight SYD-IST or if they get to disembark for a short period.

Hello - that's me! I put in a retroclaim to M&S for that TK/MH codeshare flight a couple of years ago and the points did come through. But only after attempts to claim through QFF and KF failed.

My understanding from all the available literature is that you stay on the plane.

Yes, if the final destination is IST then perhaps it might be OK in J Class. However if one is still continuing on from IST then this is probably one of the worst flights out there. Doing this in Y with a last leg to Europe is tough.

I find it bizarre that they have not applied for fifth freedom perhaps they don’t want to push their luck with the government by asking for too much etc.

After my disastrous flight from PER-IST last year when the Malindo flight from PER was two hours late and TK left KUL without 37 of us (resulting in three nights in KUL!!), I have just bitten the bullet and booked with TK again. However, I will NEVER fly Malindo (Batik Air Malaysia) again, or connect through KUL!

Wanting to fly to BUD and return from IST, I found QF J prices ludicrous, so looked at Asian airlines. I have booked PER-SIN-PER with Qantas using classic rewards. I then booked the long haul flights with TK at half the price of QF! The layover is long, but I would rather be safe than sorry, especially as I will have to collect luggage and check in with TK. I actually like the TK onboard experience; it is just administration that is a pain.

or connect through KUL!
Disappointing to hear that. We have transited through KUL many times without incident and personally I do prefer a stopover in KL over Singapore.
Been a little while since I’ve flown TK J long haul but they used to have some really good fares out of CGK. The whole stay on the aircraft, fuel stop thing doesn’t really appeal to me so i might give them a miss for the time being

Booked in J ex SYD Jan 2. I’m assuming 4 hour checkin and NZ lounge. Can anyone please confirm?
You’ll have a choice of either the SQ or NZ lounges. Or do both! (I prefer the SQ lounge)

Don’t know how early check-in opens, it will certainly be three hours, someone might be able to confirm if it’s 4.

Haven’t been to the NZ lounge since #nineteenseventyfive. Was ok. Certainly no QF Flounge…… SQ closes at 1830. Dep is now 2100. Hence my q re 4hr checkin.
