TURO Car Hire Liability Insurance Supplement USA

Hello,

I am looking to hire a few different rentals through TURO on an upcoming trip to the USA. I have hired before on previous trips through the major rental companies and have always been able to opt into a Liability Insurance Supplement (Cover for damage or injury to a third party).

Unfortunately, TURO's insurance options only offer the mandated minimum liability insurance cover for the state in which the hire commences. In most cases this cover only amounts to somewhere between $25,000-$50,000 which, in the land of litigation and crazy medical bills, could quickly become insufficient in the event of an at fault accident.

Most travel insurance policies exclude car accidents from their Liability benefit...

Does anyone who has used TURO in the USA have any advice surrounding this issue?

Cheers,

This might be helpful....
Thanks for this,

Unfortunately it is filled with incorrect info.

That article says "Liability Insurance: Turo’s plans provides coverage for damages or injuries caused to third parties, up to $1 million. It also includes coverage for theft, fire, and vandalism."
Which is false according the TUROS website which states: "any Turo-approved driver will be insured up to the state MINIMUM limits required for third-party liability.

Well, in any case, if you decide to go with Turo, I hope it all works out.

Any update here? I'm also surprised at the minimums being basically nothing re default insurance, sounds like you could be mega screwed if someone sues you for medical/car/property damage, 50k would be a drop in the bucket
