hey guys

any rules about it had to be non wheelie bags? or any type of bag under 105 and 7 kg.

got pulled up for the first time ever today and was wondering what the experience is on the forum?

thanks :-)

I saw a bloke get pulled up today as I was boarding the flight to ASP. The FA wasn't letting him board saying he had too much carry on. I then breezed passed in the priority line and didn't hear the rest of the conversation but never saw the bags going passed me.

I've looked over the rules regarding this a couple of times and never seen anything about what types of bags are allowed if taking 2x105cm.

I have theoretically tested this a small handful of times when boarding with 2 rollaboards. Helping out someone who was unable to lift their own bag. FAs seemed fine with it and it was never obvious that the second bag wasn't mine.

I personally wouldn't want to travel with two 105cm bags as it would be very uncomfortable having the second bag under the seat in front of me unless I was in row 4 on a 737.

Sounds like a made up rule.

With Qantas domestic you are permitted 2 x "105cm" up to 7kg each with no mention of wheels: (Carry On Baggage Allowance | Qantas)

[TH]Route[/TH]
[TH]Piece Allowance & Dimensions*[/TH]
[TH]Weight Allowance[/TH]

Australian Domestic (except Dash 8 services and to/from Olympic Dam)
All Classes:

 • 2 x 105cm (41in) bags or
 • 1 x 105cm (41in) bag plus 1 x 185cm (73in) non rigid garment bag or
 • 1 x 115cm (45in) bag

7kg (15lb) per piece

I have never tried to take this much on board, however, If in the extremely unlikely event I were need to do so I would:

 1. Be at the gate at the front of the line when boarding commences - I would not rely on premium boarding.
 2. Board and stow you carry on in the OHSB as soon as you can.
 3. Carry a printed copy of these rules for use if challenged.
FWIW, I have come across no published rule about placing a 'smaller' item at my feet.

Other things to ensure is that both bags are completely compliant with the published size (105cm) and weight (7kg) limits.

Thanks for your experience and input guys.

I haven't found anything that says i had been rightfully pulled up. Maybe that is why it was the first time i had been pulled up?

Anyway the CSM came and said to me that two bags were fine and apologised for separating me from my luggage. No big deal now but the return leg i will be tight for time and will need to definitely be able to take both on board without hassle.

I will heed ur advice about lining up first etc :)

If i get pulled up again, i will refer them back to this thread :D
