We had a break just over half way. Had some coffee and crisps. See, I can speak English now. Headed back out and about to enter the M1 again and saw the oil light flashing. What? In a rental having only driven maybe 300 miles?

We had just passed the fuel station so we returned and a really good attendant helped us with which oil. £25. The dipstick showed minimal oil. It took the whole bottle. We kept the receipt and will demand a 'please explain' when we return the car. And a refund.
Enjoying the TR very much - thanks for sharing.

I will be very interested to see how you go at return on this aspect. The rental companies aren’t known for being reasonable on this sort of thing…..

So, um, the passionfruit thing ... oh, never mind.
It's still the same drink. But here in UK, well, I'll leave it at that. 😉
A twist on the coughstar martini (more innocent than it sounds), this fruity coughtail combines passionfruit, vanilla vodka, prosecco and a splash of lime for a drink to remember.

8am now and off to breakfast. We are both wondering when on earth we will catch Covid. Still -ve with multiple sub trips, buses, trains, theatres, museums, pubs, restaurants and all the hugs and kisses at those superspreader events with people from England, Ireland, Wales, Belgium, Spain, South Africa, and hell, even Queensland 😳 we haven't worn a mask since the last subway trip and we also wore them at museums. Might wear them again in the various castles we are going to this week.

ISTR the UK name changed when Marks & Spencer started selling it in cans. There were complaints from offended shoppers

Very scenic route from Newcastle to Edinburgh and weather clear. Much of is coastal.

But first breakfast. I decided on full breakfast but asked for a small serve which was perfect. Black pudding. It’s ok.

We knew we had an hour to kill before meeting the Airbnb host so headed to the coast again and stumbled upon Dunbar. Wonderful working Marina. And the former home of Mary Queen of Scots.

Made our way to the Airbnb which is walking distance to the castle. Checked out the route for various activities.

Dinner sorted for Thursday.

Ooooh! Wish I'd known you were going there. I'm heading up there next year to do some research on a chap I'm writing about, mainly to visit his haunts/house etc (and the castle). He named the Hobart suburb of Lindisfarne (then his farm) after the monastery on Holy Island.

I'll get in touch with you after you get back to see if you have any more detailed tips about the area.

Don't try to go there on a weekend, fine days or during holidays. We couldn't get within 5 miles of the actual castle due to roads clogged with traffic. After an hr in traffic we gave up!

It was surprisingly busy in the center but easy parking just next to the castle. Huge car park. But roads so narrow you had to keep pulling over amidst parked cars so very slow going. A few people were walking up to it. We didn’t have the time. Car park was busier once we left. The road leading to the town (those pictures above) was not busy so it was a surprise to see a lot of cars at the village. We got there around 11.

We didn’t know either. Just needed a break. 😂. It was cold there. But no rain. Maybe go in June.
