I am arriving in Berlin (TXL) at 1610 in early March. I have tickets to the Blue Man Group at 1800, and need to go via HH Berlin. Should I get a taxi from the airport to the hotel or will traffic at that hour make the bus/U-bahn combo quicker? I will be getting a cab from the hotel to the show, so need to leave the hotel no later than about 1730.

I have a 6 hour transit in STR (where the TXL flight originates) so will be trying for an earlier flight, but in case I can't get one, any advise would be welcome.

By HH do you mean the Hilton, which is in the centre of the town by the square?

We took the train and Ubahn, don't think it took more than an hour. Didn't take the airport out so that was TXL to Hilton.

Sorry can't be more help.

Have done it quicker via Cab despite peak time it was quicker. But you will be cutting it fine. I think you will need to go direct to Theatre instead. Unless u are not delayed and luggage comes out on time (straight away) or you have no luggage( even better). And there is no queue at passport control.

In Berlin I doubt that traffic will be an issue, as despite its size it suffers from virtually no congestion. ( Reason being it is built to take a lot more population than currently lives there, and business-wise it does not have an overly active CBD relative to its population size).

However you only have 110 minutes.

Taxi to Hilton say 30-35.

So have to get off plane on-time (it may be slightly late), wait for bag ( last time that was about 15-20 minutes at a guess flying Air Berlin)...2 minute walk to taxi...maybe a short wait for a taxi at that time of day.. taxi ride....probably a short wait at Hilton to check in... taxi to the theatre

It may be do-able if the early part goes well. Say if you are in the taxi by 1645 at the latest.

However if the first part takes longer I would have a Plan B ( see if theatre can coat-check your bag, or pay taxi driver to take bag to Hilton)

Hi, I have been to Berlin twice and stayed at the Hilton once.

You are cutting the timings very fine, I flew in on an Air Berlin domestic flight and it took about 40 minutes for bags to arrive.

I would consider taking the X9 into the city(Zoologischer Garten) and then taking a cab a short ride to the hotel, the U-bahn doesn't run to Tegel.

The X9 express bus runs every 10 minutes from 5:00–23:00 h via Jakob-Kaiser-Platz to Zoologischer Garten railway station (the journey takes approx. 20 minutes).

At Zoologischer Garten station there is plenty of taxis available as a number of buses come into that area, and the name doesn't sound that complicated once you heard it a few times. wiki suggests Berlin Zoo or colloquially Bahnhof Zoo.

Wot Bundy and mark said.

I was there in late February last year, and arrived at a similar time. I took a taxi and whilst the traffic wasn't horrendous it was free flowing either.

It was one of the few times I checked luggage, but fortunately the luggage was out in about 10-15 mins.

+1 for the X9 to Zoologischer and then cab from there.

I should have specified that I will not have checked luggage*, and as I am coming from STR there should be no passport control.

Looks like taxi it is to avoid any poor connections with the public transport. I need to go to the Hilton first, so going straight to the Theatre isn't an option - although one I considered.

Thanks for the informed replies.
