Has any one had a status match from United. I am a QP but would like to
start STAR rtws and need to find a convenient FFP.

Thanks for your advice.

US Dividend Miles is a good one to join as they often have promo's where you can buy miles with 100% bonus

Hi Bob,

I don't know if QP is actually seen as status (unless you are PS as well).

Thanks for the info. I am WP...QF Platinum...

Can the status match be handled by UA in Sydney or must be done in the USA?

Also, is there a better STAR FF for earn/reward than UA that would be worth considering as I live in Australia? Most of my travel will be J RTW.

There is a fax number to use as well as a email address. Should not be hard to find out the phone number.

Others here may be better qualified to the earn/reward answer than me.

However as a Syd/Lax rtn with a bit of US domestic travel will get you the required 17,500 "flight miles" and the Premier Executive (*A Gold equivalent) status is good until 1 Feb 2013, it seem a good value. That way you get a leg into *A and can then post your miles where you wish as you learn their system.

UA has a current status match program in operation:
United Airlines - Mileage Plus elite status match program

You can get Premier Executive (*A Gold equivalent) for 90 days.

Very handy to know,

What is the program like?

I found the US devalues it's premium products. For example if you are in the military (pursueing avtive duty) you are automatically upgraded to F on AA. Quite ridiculous to let patriotism devalue your product.

The lounges are nothing to write home about except a select few.

Spruce, for me it is a quick way to get *A Gold unless Branson inks the docs. The only US lounge I have used is the AA Lax F lounges, which the QF F lounges blow away. However the AA Lounge in Denver treated a QF WP with a lot of care and respect. There was nothing they would not do to make me feel special. As for the LA AA F lounge. Well I'm sure you have been there and done that.

 I take it you have never been under fire or been to a funeral of a mate killed in action. Sorry mate but you got that very wrong.

Been there, done that, lost mates and saw stuff that still keeps me awake at night. Got a Men in Black memory eraser handy?

Yes agree Watson.

Nothing impresses me about LAX, and that includes the F OWE lounge!

Last time I was there I heard a story that they banned wifi from the airport. Paranoia taken to a new level I reckon!

If I can miss LAX then I will. Other cities in this category include ROme (FCO), which is an absolute dump. Fly direct to Firenze these days for my Tuscan Soujorns!

Last time I was in Rome airport, the security guards carried machine guns. Scared my kids so much they asked me, Daddy will they kill us? Sorry but Rome is one airport I do not fly into.

Yes well the kids were on the money there!

They are the most disorganized unhelpful lot I have come across in a long time.

It's like going back 40 years in time. Time travel that's what it's good for!!!

Most US airlines upgrade servicemen/women travelling in uniform on a space available basis... and - Sprucegoose will no doubt be shocked by this - where that hasn't happened many airline elites offer their own "automatic" upgrades to military personnel... ... but yes, he/she is right about the devaluation of domestic F over there... since empty seats are filled by status/auotmatic upgrades the product is hardly worth paying for... except on a good "UP" run of course!!!Given the way so many Europeans look askance at US gun laws.. it is interesting (and weird - to me at least) that so many European police carry automatic weapons... What do they need a submachinegun for?

Spruce,

As a veteran, I thank you for your comments. Quite right, never let patriotism get in the way of, what, your life, your freedom, or in your case a First Class upgrade?

I don't believe they status match however, depending on how much you will be flying another alternative to consider is the Asiana Club for *A status.

The three main benefits with Asiana are;

you only require 20k miles for *A Silver (Asiana Gold) and 40k miles for *A Gold (Asiana Diamond),
you have two years to qualify for status, and two years to retain status,
miles expiration is a minimum 7 years (10 years for higher status).

Their redemption rates aren't quite as good for upgrades or awards, but they're not that far off the mark from SQ or UA.

I think it is very important to keep your business affairs separate from state affairs. Depersonalizing matters, I wouldnt upgrade service people (on any basis). If they are required or entitled to fly a higher class then it is their employers duty to fund this.

Clearly it is a marketing campaign and no more than this on behalf of AA. Cheap patriotism at best.

Take it to the next level, if the states were serious about their servicemen they would raise taxes and provide a more effective support for these brave folk. However they even seem incapable of proper debate and mechanism for this hence their sovereign debt has been downrated. That's it in simple terms.

I have some pretty deep military links and whilst I sympathise and understand, I disagree with you and agree with Spruce on this one.
