UFC - What am I missing?

Oh ok now I get it - they lock 2 girls in a cage and 56,000 morons cheer them on until one chick kicks the former world champion in the face so hard it knock her unconscious - oh yeah - our society is progressing in leaps and bounds isn't it!

Such a nuanced take on it all that one might almost forget so many many other people see it differently.

That said, impressive technology to scan the intelligence of 56,000 people so quickly.

Seriously, you would cheer on a woman being beaten by a man?

Yes, Im aware she most probably could knock out most men on a daily basis but a confident, pushy woman makes you want to see her beaten?
I can't stand watching this rubbish other than what my eyes cannot avoid to see.

I am not a misogynist and nor do I believe a woman should be beaten up but a woman who thinks is better than champion male boxers is a lunatic. She should just up. Men in general are physically vastly stronger than woman in the majority of sports that it's a fact life.

For Wrestling, Ive seen too much gay male cough to ever take it seriously

Well she did admit to assaulting her former boyfriend.

Ronda apologises for her non attendance at the post match interview - apparently had to take an extended nap in the Alfred hospital for facial reconstruction.

Doctors are hoping she will make some sort of recovery. At this point in time they are unable to determine which blow sent her into lala land - whether it was the kick to the face or the 2 follow up punches she received whilst snoozing on the canvas.

I think we may well see professional boxing disappear also in the non too distant future.

But the problem being, the bogans of the world that love blood and guts and someone elses pain will go underground. No different from disgusting dog blood sports, even chicken fighting. Aholes cheering on blood, pain and death. I will never understand it.

My father loved watching boxing in the 50's and 60's but got turned off the sport because of the deaths in the sport.

I dont get it either but each to their own. I watch tennis until midnight every January and i know some people find that boring.

I used to love watching tennis. Since the grunting/screaming saga can't be bothered to watch it anymore....

They also seem to allow the women players to sweat these days, whereas previously they would only perspire delicately.

In response to the OP - nothing, imo.

TOTALLY agree..each to their own and all that stuff...but what offends me more is these 'athletes' CHOOSE to bash each other up (under the guise of 'sport'), and waste precious hospital/emergency services time and resources as a consequence... just my opinion of course :)

Don't think they have missed you either - one of the best matches I have ever seen Maria V Victoria - anybody who knows anything about tennis will know what I mean.

Sport in it's purest form - an absolute pleasure to watch.

Completely agree. I have to change the channel if it pops up on TV. I can't help but imagine the damage they are doing to their brain, rattling around inside their skulls as someone crouches over the top of them - punching them in the head.

Isn't that why a certain % of the population does watch it.

Those of us who don't like violent sports probably have a secret fear of the end of civilisation and having to live in a society where only the strong survive. I've seen too many movies and TV shows - it never ends well for the geeks.

The thought of inflicting physical pain on another human being horrifies me. I often wonder if I could do it if I had to. I won't be signing up to UFC any time soon of course.

On the subject I saw a bit of a couple of RR's fights on Fox when we stayed in a hotel over the weekend. I didn't realise this big fight was on. Watching Rousey she didn't look all that fantastic (not that I'd know) but was very strong and relied on holding. We thought it looked a lot like wrestling until Rousey started punching her held opponent in the forehead repeatedly so we switched channels. Not for me.

Doesn't horrify me at all, as I know from first-hand experience that I can, and will, do it without hesitation if needed in a self-defence situation - I won't be signing up for UFC any time soon either LOL, but being female and 5ft nothing, the training I've done has made sure I'm more than capable of defending myself if and when I have to . No point in going at it half-ar$ed - if you're going to fight back, make it count, otherwise don't bother.
