Was personally told by lounge staff that I should move on to boarding for DOH-MUC
50 minutes before departure but it is a bit of a trek
Past the bear
20220430_053941.jpg
Along the terminal to catch the train
20220430_075745.jpg
And then downstairs to the gate for a bus to remote boarding. Separate bus with leather seats for J pax 😀

Again an A350 but this time with a herringbone rather than suites layout.
20220430_140634.jpg
I was in 5A. Decent seat-maybe a little far from the window and foot-cubby on the small side if being picky.

Decent storage and can confirm @Pushka you do get a pouch 😀

Service excellent again
Pre-departure Bollinger rose (not quite as good as the Heidseck last flight). Only other change in wines was a very smooth St Emillon
20220430_082210.jpg
Starter of very good beef followed by a (somewhat overcooked) trio of fish

Had a couple of hours sleep. Cloudy at times but did have some views of Alps around Salzburg
20220430_131821.jpg
And the pastoral countryside on descent into MUC
20220430_133215.jpg

MUC isn't much of a looker as an airport-all long thin corridors of steel and glass. Went through some quite officious transit security to the gates
(I'm connecting through MUC as QR fares were $2k less by not using LHR...and I wanted some BA squiggles)
No OW lounge at this major *A hub so proceeded to Airport Lounge World, 5 minutes down the terminal.
Access with Priority Pass among others

Bright and airy with tarmac views if you get up close to the windows. Had a sip of the surprisingly good Red before settling into more traditional local fare20220430_142300.jpg

Well this might have gone in the Travel Mistakes forum
Hadn't checked my seat number for A319 MUC-LHR. I'm in Y and it's 11B 😖
Flight is rammed to the gills so no change options
Manage to get on early despite no priority boarding.
Sitting in my seat waiting to offer help with bags etc when very spiky lady tells me off for having my elbow on the top corner of 11C before she's even sat down
Pretty uneventful journey. All wearing masks though had heard somewhere it wasn't mandatory

BA have reintroduced snack and drink to distinguish from LCCs 🤔
20220430_171912_04.jpg
Had to buy a G&T (gin from the 13 colonies 😳 unlike Beefeater of old)
20220430_173720.jpg
No queue at passport control. Short wait for bags. Bought some gin and toblerones and in England I arrive

Unusually for me I preferred the rose champagne
Again unusually I found the Pinot best of the reds; the French was very smoky and the Spanish Syrah an unfamiliar Shiraz taste
The Italian white was, as its name would suggest, more Greek in style, quite resinous
Are they not doing the “warmed savory pastries” for mid flight snack/munchies? I miss those!!

Great TR thank you. I hope you packed a Tweed Jacket and brown shoes to blend in on any country visits this time 😂

Absolutely love Erdinger 🍺🍺🍺 possibly my favourite beer!

Taxi from LHR and checked into Crowne Plaza Albert Embankment
Seems new and is next door to the (Radisson) Park Plaza Riverbank.
Booked a Standard King (via IHG not forgetting to go via topcashback.com for 6% off 😉) and upgraded to River View. Room not huge but in good nick

You can see Palace of Westminster and the London Eye (just)
20220501_002345.jpg
Has a couple of bars and a Japanese restaurant but no time to visit.

Don't mind the odd Aviation G&T myself 😉

As I was off to dinner with schoolfriends (5 of my final year class of 10).
As I took the taxi to Tooting, was taken by how much more outside dining there was-a positive legacy of covid. Just made the city that bit more buzzy
A few of my friends had studied at St George's so knew the curry scene well
Food plentiful and well-priced. BYO beer

As I've noticed before when you see people you haven't for a long time, it's amazing how little any of us have changed (personality if not hair and weight) since we were in our teens.
As we left the restaurant, one of the waiters ran 50m down the street to return one our party's sunnies- 👏
Stopped off in a little bar for coughtails in one of the market alleys; there seemed to be lots of these little places around-not something I'd seen before in London.

Back to the hotel on the tube. Masks apparently obligatory but conspicuous by their absence:-late-night London is clearly over it
Short walk from Vauxhall tube back to room and wished mstrsevans3&4 good luck with their junior rugby matches. Hotel bars closed at 12.30 though might well be said I haven't gone without lately

Indian restaurants were a favourite choice when I was a student in London, but your reunion seems a lot more “refined” than those of my youth…perfectly encapsulated by Rohan Atkinson’s monologue.

Morning view
20220501_063107.jpg
Room view of Vauxhall in other direction less scenic but you can just catch a bit of Battersea Power Station
20220501_071059.jpg
Lambeth Palace, the residence of the Archbishop of Canterbury is a stone's throw away
20220501_064339.jpg
There is also a monument to seafarers at the International Maritime Organisation building
20220501_065813.jpg
And one for the old White Hart Dock
20220501_070421.jpg

Inspired by a plaque on dock..
20220501_070441.jpg
I set off in search of the Broad Street Pump.
Not the typical London sight but I'm sure @drron and other AFF medics will remember its significance from their undergraduate days
The walk there took in a few classics though20220501_114320.jpg

We walked by many of those yesterday in the sunshine. Back to grey today….

A couple of weeks ago, we walked from Battersea to Vauxhall. The construction / redevelopment there over the years is extradinary.
