Underwhelming experience

I mentioned earlier that a QF Plat One told me in his opinion a flight he did on DJ in PE was better than QF in J. He usually travels QF but had the opportunity to sample DJ late Oct for reasons we all know.

That's what I was refering to, one secondary anecdotal reference. We all meet people who make (silly) comments about things. But no-one writing in this thread said it.

There is a comment made in zest that started today's round of comparisons...
It is not hard to figure out which post it is

I think it's impossible to write off the VA service when it really hasn't been rolled out fully yet. Try again next year once the whole fleet is fitted and the proper J experience can take shape. Good things take time, according to Mainland Cheese ads.

Exactly - DJ PE meets my expectations as a domestic premium economy service. DJ PE is not better than QF domestic J but I don't expect it to be.

For what it's worth, sitting in F seats on a QF 4-class 747 sold as a 3 class flight and receiving J service is a considerably poorer product than BA First class. Following some of the logic of some in this thread, QF F must therefore be an inferior product to BA First?

Absolutely. It is hard to take some of the comments of comparison here seriously. QF have been running a domestic business class cabin for nearly 20 years, and of course Australian and TAA F before that. "they have it well organised" as someone said, I should hope so, but for all that the product is pretty un-inspiring. As for the 'stunning' food I am yet to experience that in circa 100 flights but I look forward to it.

I have not experienced the aforementioned 'disorganisation' on Virgin but I am sure that is possible in the transition.

For me the difference in overall quality between an airline that has been doing this for 20 years as compared to one that has been doing it for about 20 days is minimal which does not say much for the veteran or speaks volumes for the newcomer.

I don't agree. The fact that QF have been doing this for 20 years is mostly irrelevant. They have many ex QF employees who know how J works, they must have seen what the comparative DOM J offerings are like around the world. I would expect the hard product and the soft product to be at the same standard (or better) than QF J at launch. The only thing that would be different would be the employees familiarity with how the J product should be delivered. Frankly they are professional cabin crew it shouldn't be that hard to learn how to serve nicer food and drinks.

I cannot really see where we disagree here. I said QF is experienced but rather un-inspiring, Virgin are not dis-organised (in my experience) and their product looks to be pretty comparable to QF (albeit J has not yet fully launched on the 738 services)

I tend to agree with this.

That said - I'm also giving the benefit of the doubt at the moment and will pass full judgement once the hard product has finished being rolled out.

I mainly fly whY domestic as it comes out of my own pocket, and if I'm going to splurge - i'll save it for where it matters (transpacific).

My beef was the difference between what QF can deliver - and - what QF did deliver.

It's not about unrealistic expectations, DYKWIA, or DJ......IMHO.

However - when DJ are more up to speed, and if QF continue to underwhelm on a regular basis - then I can be bought, and I'm happy to admit it.

I almost tend to agree, especially when compared to 734. Sure the food isnt that great but eat at the airport. The foxtel and friendly staff makes the difference. I dont fly to eat, I fly as part of my work and if that means I can be one of the first off and have choice on what to watch then I'm happy

It's been quite a while since I've stepped foot in a Qantas plane, so my experience may not be representative of what's happening now - but I seem to recall QF having a pretty good short haul J service, especially if you compare with what passes for short haul J in Europe, and even domestic F in the US (although I do think F on AS is really rather good). That said, a flight in domestic J was usually me treating myself .. so because it was out of the norm, maybe my judgement was off :?:

I'm not prepared to judge VA short haul J yet, but I think they've given themselves a fairly high target to reach. Will be interesting to revisit this topic in a year or so.
